Hi Everybody:
I recently tried to use the rss movie feeds for listings and it did not work. Has anybody else have it working, please help?
Thanks.
LawofA
There was a change in the way the source allowed transfer of information, and the script we had no longer works. The author of the script was working on a fix but came up dry. I miss having it too.
Does anyone know of a replacement for the movie rss feed?
I have searched every RSS feed directory site I know of, I have yet to find a new one.
I stopped visiting this board, so I never uploaded the updated script. I'll send it when I get home.
MadTxn, we mite be the forbiden application but we are far from dead. So come by and visit.
Here's the script. It uses moviefone.com, so pick your theaters that way.
I stopped visiting because I stopped using T+. I've learned to live without it.
Would you please post instructions for use of script. Is this the script that if hosted on one computer many different people can get there local movie times.
Here's a step by step:
1. Go to www.moviefone.com and find the theaters you want.
2. Note the theater id at the end of the URL.
3. Add the script to your RSS feed using "listings_rss.php?theater1=id1&theater2=id2... etc."
4. That's it.

Umm.. What happened to the script? I'd like to use this feature too.

See this (http://www.jhollin1138.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=9406#9406). Specifically:

I went through the "file" back-up, I think I got the right one and reattached it.

I tried this. I've edited the script for my local theaters. However, I dont understand how I can 'add the script to my RSS feed' as show above. I'm assuming this is a sting that I put in my URL text box. Is this correct? I'm afraid this old man needs a little more detailed instructions. I hope you can help me.
I guess I'm with Geezer on this one !!
I see that you can edit the script in notepad, and add your local movie theaters / times etc..
After that, where do you put the script file, and how do you code it into the TP skin ?? :?:
I'd like to use this.. Any Ideas ??
Try this from your browser:
http://24.34.11.59/listings_rss.php?theater1=2022&theater2=2023&theater3=2058
I you get something back, then follow MadTxn's directions to add to T+.
If you get that to work, I'll explain what you did.
Good Luck,
Ed
Thanks eemond,
I followed the link you gave and got to the xml page.. Still some questions !!
1) Would this link as above be added to the TP config file under RSS feeds
2) ..If yes to #1.. Would this be setup in the TP skin the same as would a news feed
3) ...If yes to #1&2.. Then what is the "script" file for ??
Thanks for the quick response !! :D
Dito what Zapme1 says. I have the same questions.
Geezer
Yes it is put in the config file as any other rss feed. Also you call it in the skin as any rss would be called.
Ok, here is what I did !!
I used the link from above that eemond posted, and replaced the movie theater ID numbers with my local theater numbers.. I then added the url to my TP config file..
Next, I added code to my skin in much the same way that I have the news feeds.. With news feeds, I have (5) headlines displayed, and a button which changes the page, showing (5) new headlines per page.. I have (3) pages setup, so I can have a total of (15) headlines.. Some news feeds have only 12 or 13 available, while others have all 15..
I setup the movie theater feeds in the same way ! Instead of headlines, I have the movie titles listed as (5) per page.. When tapped, the description shows the selected movie title, along with movie times for each of the (3) theaters I have setup in the config file.. If a title was only showing in 2 of the theaters, then only them 2 theaters would display the showtimes !!
All sounds great with this setup, and I was very happy with the results !!
Until............
I visited the theater web site, and checked the script.. Both were showing about 25 or 26 movie titles total between the (3) theaters !!
But when displayed in TP, I only see the first (13) movie titles !!
Nothing that I've tried will give me any more, but the titles still show at the web site, and in the script !!! :wall:
I know that the solution must be right in front of my eyes, but I can't seem to find it..
I'm hoping someone will have an idea about this... :?
i added the lonk to the rss config and it downloaded the info into TD+. the problem is that formatting is screwed when using Hammerskin. anyone else have this problem or a suggestion?
JTod
Are you getting the titles all messed up? If yes I have fixed it let me know.
joel,
Were you refering to JTod'd post, or my last post with your question ??
*bump*
Does anyone have an idea about this ??????

Never mind.. I solved the problem !!
I seperated each movie theater into a seperate url feed, and added buttons to switch between.....
Problem solved.. It works Beautifully !!
This feed works great! It looks very good on the Hammerskin. Thanks to everyone who got this feed working.
Now, how about a feed for Movie Reviews ??
That would be cool !! 8)
Any ideas anyone ??
Today I have been not able to get my movie schedule. Get some script error message. Anyone else having problems? Here is the url I am using.
http://24.34.11.59/listings_rss.php?theater1=552
Joelw135,
I tried this url and got a "We're sorry..." message:
http://movies.channel.aol.com/showtimes/theater.adp?tab=showtimes&theaterId=552
The script breaks when something unexpected is returned.
It must be on there side since I have been using this URL for many months without a problem.

Why would you be using 552 that is my local movie? If you click it you get this.

Sorry...
I'm using the same url, but with a different theater ID !
What I meant in my post is that I tried your (552) url, and it worked for me !!
Movie theaters are high priced enough, but I doubt I'd travel to NJ to see one.........!
It's been working for me with my local theaters but sometimes it's hard for me to understand the behavior of TodayPlus. I click on one link and after it selects data to display, the screen behaves irratic. Now that I think about it. It would be very hard to explain since the skin I'm using uses the VGA resolution. I think once I can get to the poin of attaching screen captures, it would be easier to show my problem.
Geezer
Even when I check the movie times on line it says no information available, check back later.
ZapMe1,
I believe there already is a movie review in place, the trouble is depending on what version of T+ you are using will determine how you get to the Yahoo Review.
Try this link from your browser:
http://24.34.11.59/listings_rss.php?theater1=552
Look for the "search.movies..." link (see below for example):
http://search.movies.yahoo.com/moviesintgsearch?search=all&p=Friday+Night+Lights
Now, how do I get to this link from T+.
With HAMMERSKIN 01.04 connected to WiFi I select the movie from my RSS Feeds and click the icon (botton right) which takes me to PIE and the Yahoo Review for the selected movie.
Hope this helps.
Now that we have one, this thread should probably be moved to the Developer's Corner (http://www.jhollin1138.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=14) section.
Hi eemond,
Thanks for the links.. I'm using the first link already (With My Local Theater ID of course), and I get the movie times just fine !!
The second link you provided, gives a "page cannot be displayed" error..
I'm using TPv.12, and trying this in my new skin that I'm writing !!

Do you mean the "online" link in HammerSkin that looke like a blank page ?? I tried that, and IE started, but I got a "page cannot be displayed message" :wall:

Zapme1:
Did you set up any cache page for rss in the configure?
I believe my cache is all set to "0" ... What should they be set to ??
Quote from: ZapMe1I believe my cache is all set to "0" ... What should they be set to ??
Start with 1... :D
Set it to something > 0 (mine is set to 10). You will find some html pages in your TodayPlus\Buffer folder (looks like rss7.txt1.html). My movie RSS link is my 7th link (therefore rss7). This should resolve your "page cannot be displayed"
Good luck
Now that the movie rss is working again, I have my cache set to 2, but depending on how many theaters there are will determine the size.
Thank You Gents !! :D
Got it working, but I was hoping to get a movie review as in the way the Headline News displays the News story.. Meaning when I tap a movie title, the review would pop-up in the story area of the skin .. :?:
eemond, the link you posted seems to take me to a yahoo search where I can search for movie reviews !! Is that right ??
ZapMe1,
My icon takes to the Yahoo movie review for the particualr movie I'm looking at in my RSS link.
QuoteZapMe1,

It seems I should be getting the same as you ?? :?

Boy, I'm really interested in this idea. Let us know..
ZapMe1,
When yolu click on this link, what do you see?

I did too. :D :approve:
I see what you are seeing.. I guess I didn't word my last post correctly !!
I do see the movie title that opens up in IE when that title is tapped..
I had just hoped that it would go directly to the review, and not have to tap again !!
Like everyone else, my IE can be slow loading at times, and if I could go directly to the review with just one tap, this would be better !!
Again, I would like to find a way to display reviews for the selected movie right on my today screen without involving IE, just like the news story displays when a headline is selected !! 8)

This would be Cool !! 8) I'll keep searching, and post if I find anything !!
I found This Link (http://www.movie-gazette.com/rss/rsscinema.asp)
It gives the movie titles, and when tapped gives a "short" description of the movie !! Not quite a Review, but it's a start !!
I'll keep searching.. There must be others like this one that give more review type detail !! :)
 Update !!
This link that I posted above;
http://www.movie-gazette.com/rss/rsscinema.asp
Will give a short description when the movie title is tapped, as I stated above..
But when connected and tapping the "online link button", it will start IE and go right to a "very detailed" movie review, including rating, running time, movie poster, and much more !! 8)
Only one tap from the skin brings you to all of this !!
The only problem that I find is that there is so much info about the movie, that IE takes some time to fully load it all !!
Still looking for a way to view the review on the Today screen without using IE......
Zapme1:
Th detailed review is presented as a web page. At this moment, you have no choice but use IE to see it. Unless, the review is stored as a file, then it is possible you can download then see it from TP...
Update:
I think there is a way.. But still need to use IE at this moment. But I think it will be much faster, but you will not see any image just text review. Would it this work for you??? Maybe later you can read without using IE. It will be tricky and not easy

Your right.. But I'll keep searching.. Just like the News feeds, I know movie reviews are out there somewhere !! :?

I don't need images in the review !! Speed is the only issue at the moment when using IE, and a faster load will be better !!
What's your idea ??
Would it be as simple as turning off the image button in IE ?? :?:

Yes, it possible to turn image off from IE. But I am thinking in other way. This is not really an easy straight forward.
Ok, I notice I can use EzDownload the whole web site, just in 2 secs. This can be opened by IE, since it is in your PPC, the open is faster. However...
How do you do a downloading by just tap the RSS title? The link ID (ie.988) is in the RSS and you need someway to extract it out (another exe) and let EzDownload to get the file.
What I am trying to say it is possible but will be "tough"...
UK_Skinner;
Turning off the images in IE didn't make much difference anyway !!
I know you have many things on your plate that you are working on right now, but if there is anyone who can figure this out, it would be You ! :D
I haven't worked with ezdownload yet, so I may not be much help with that !! :!:
Here is the scenario:
1) A small exe to create a small text file list all the movie ID after you download the movie RSS (the first one provided by ZapMe1). As you can see the movie ID is after http://www.movie-gazette.com/cinereviews in the RSS script.
2) Let's say you are reading the movie RSS and you would like to see the review then you tap a small icon (a new one ,"Review") then trigger a exe call EzDownload to download the review.html then ask IE to open it.
Any suggestion?

This sounds like it should work fine !! I knew you could do it UK !! :approve:
Question1: Would the movie text file contain all of the movie ID's of the ones you want to see reviews from, and can this list be changed when new movies are released, or if you want to add more to the list ??
Question2: Would a new/ seperate .exe for ezdownload need to be created for each review that you wish to look at ??
Great Work UK !!

ZapMe1: Well, not so fast. Just an idea and it will take some times to make it become reality.
Q1: I will assume the movide ID list is with the RSS script. So whenever the RSS script change the list of IDs will change too. In other words, the first number in the list should corresponding to the first movie in RSS scripts.
Q2: I hope not but I don't have the firm answer yet. This is something I am still thinking
Edit: A possible way is using the shortcut to let TP send out which movie review you would like to download and see. The shortcut will be just a simple line of file path of exe which can take an external variable. Then you only need one exe. But someone has to come out this exe...
UK_Skinner;
Like I said, I don't know much at all about ezdownload, but please let me know how I can help this become reality !! :P

Well, this is just not only use EzDownload also need to do the ID extraction. That is first step. Hmm...it is time to take an Advil and goto Microsoft Devloper Center site.....

I could work on the ID Extraction, but a little confused on where to start & what to do ! :?:

Be honesy with you, no clue yet...
I am having trouble to see rss link you posted. My TP could not download the rss to buffer folder. However, if I downloaded, renamed and put it into folder, then I can read it from RSS section...
But anyway, I got a file to work with. My plan is to write a simple exe to use this as source to extract ID from there. Do you know how to write PPC exe?
Quote from: uk_skinnerBut anyway, I got a file to work with. My plan is to write a simple exe to use this as source to extract ID from there. Do you know how to write PPC exe?
I'm afraid that I don't.. (But I'm a quick learner ! )
ZapMe1:
Trust me, it is no fun if you want to learn from the beginning to develop a proram.
Anyway, I think I got the first step, movie ID extraction from RSS script. But I am struggling the next step. You need a way to pass variable(item number in RSS) out to the TP. At first, I think I could use shortcut to point a link where you can link the exe. But you need to pass the number into that exe. This is where I have no clue how to do it. :wall: For example, a link like this.
/My Documents/ReviewDownload.exe ID=1
The key is to write ReviewDownload.exe to take the number after "ID=" inside the program and it can go to the ID List (a text file) to get the first ID from the list and download the review of that particular movie.
I checked the size of review html is about 20K, so you really don't want download all of them, 20Kx32=640K. Besides, it will take about 1-2 minutes to get all these reviews. With the problem I encountered of AS, you probably can not do it mutiple times, however Wi-Fi seemed to be ok.
I will continue to see I can make that happened..
UK_Skinner;
I understand what your trying to do !! Sorry I can't be of more help, my background is much more in Electronics then computer...
But if there is Anything I can do to help, please let me know !!
I really would like to see this work out !! 8)
@Uk_Skinner;
Here is a site that may help with what your trying to do !! (maybe)
http://www.2rss.com/software.php?page=rss20docs
Also, here is another part of that same site that provides many feeds !! I'm sure we could find some useful things here !!
http://www.2rss.com/index.php?cat2=37&p=7
I'm not sure if anyone has been to this site.. But it seems cool !! 8)
Zapme1:
Thanks for the information. I will take a look.
I got one more step close, but it will not be my "idea way". Right now, I can download the review based on the ID. But the whole thing will be bulky (about 200-250KB). Again, this is proof of priniciple, it will be improved if someone out there can threw some idea.
Although the html file was downloaded but I am looking to see I can just extract the information you want to read and put them in text file or even RSS format. But this will even push myself too hard... :wall: :wall:
Edit: The idea to extract text information from html turns out is too big for me to handle...
QuoteI got one more step close, but it will not be my "idea way". Right now, I can download the review based on the ID. But the whole thing will be bulky (about 200-250KB).
Is this "bulk" due to the amount of detail provided X the # of reviews downloaded at one time ??
If so, can just one review detail be targeted, and stored in a text ?? I guess this would create many text files !!
I don't know... (just fishing !!)

No, even worst.
Here are what I have for now.
1) An exe to extract Movie ID from your RSS script--> about 113KB-->speed ms
2) I gave up to find the way to send ID inside the program. An small (3KB) exe will creat a temp file to store the RSS item number from TP. Yes, you need 32 of individual one (4KB x 32 = 128KB). -->ms
3) Then ReviewDownload (5Kb) to get RSS item number then pull the MovieID from the list, then use ExDownload to download the html. -->s
4) Open with IE -->forever
So I lied, plus EzDownload (80KB) it ends up to 300KB. And I found out even the file downloading was fast, but IE still opened slow. So after all the efforts, I guess the "IE" as a bad guy.
I will continue to see I can find a better way to do it. IMHO, it is "too" early to put in TP..
Edit: Correction, the total was about 300KB..
Seems like this may be a Dead Issue :(
