Well, everything most come to an end, and since it looks like SRS is not going to continue developing TodayPlus, there's no point for me to continue hosting a dead project.

I will close this forums at the end of this month. If anyone wants to host a new forum, I will gladly offer a forum backup so they can restore all the forums in another place.

Thanks everybody.

Eitel

I hate to see it go, but I do understand. I hope someone else will pick up where you left off.

This forum has been a great resource.  I think you can see that by how many posts I have...very few!  I've been using TD+ for a while now, and have not had to ask many questions because this site pretty much covers everything.  I really will miss having this great resource at my fingertips.

Thanks for the forum. Maybe some day, it will come back...
Title: May be interested in hosting board
Post by: duane1221 on July 24, 2004, 10:59:31 PM
Thanks for all you have done in hosting this board and providing such a good resource.

I have space and bandwith on a server that I am not using, but have no experience hosting a message board.  Can you tell me what is needed?  Software to purchase and so on?

Thanks

Feel free to email me if you wish to discuss after the board goes down.

Eitel did a great job with hosting and being a mediator between the forum members ans srs. We will all miss the forum and the good friends we have made. I myself will find a new place to discuss TodayPlus. Either on Brighthand or when Corbcut forum returns. See you all soon I hope.

Eitel

I just wanted to thank you for hosting and keeping this forum alive for so long. I realize it was a lot of time and effort on you part, especially when things got stormy here. Thanks!

For anyone interested there is a small T+ forum on PDACorps.

Sad to say goodbye here but it was a very rewarding experience for me, fustrations and all.

What's the current size of the forum and what's the amount of time you spend keeping it running :?:

EItel,

As it approaches the one-year anniversary when SRS asked for beta testers, I find it interesting that your hosting this forum will soon come to an end.  As we all know, TodayPlus started with a programmer giving to the world a simple weather plug-in.  TodayPlus quickly involved into a whole screen plug-in.

In the same generous spirit that SRS freely gave TodayPlus to the world, others made there own contributions.  How many of us use icons that LightMan created in our skins?  How many of us have used fishboy's "Skin Reference Manila?"  Who can also forget some of the great skins that were made by more authors then can list in this post.  In the true spirit of TodayPlus you generously volunteered to host this forum when our single thread over at Brighthand became a burden.

It is unfortunate that this great site, full of useful information may soon leave use.  With the long term of TodayPlus being dark, it is understandable.

Thank you again for hosting this forum.  :cup:

If there is someone out there that would like to step up to bat, and host the forum it would greatly be appreciated by all of us. Thanks.

At this time I think the members should decide if they want to create a thread on BrightHand or use the one on PDACorps. Please post what your thoughts are in reference to this topic. If we had a new home we mite be able to save some info from here.

I already have several threads I follow at Brighthand so that would be the best place for me.

I'm not a regular reader of the forums/threads at Brighthand or PDACorps, but it seems that the PDACorps forum is organized a lot better.  I visited both sites, and found it a lot more time consuming to search for individual threads at Brighthand.  At least at PDACorps there is actually an individual board set aside for Todayplus, which makes it a lot easier to keep up on all the TD+ posts.

The amount of information pertaining to TD+ at either one of these sites appears to be far, far less than what's available here.  It would be a shame if all the valuable reference information of this site was lost forever.

Just my opinion...

The problem I have run into is finding a site to host the reference material. We need them saved in a file format which can be downloaded, as the members need it.

Hosting the manuals really isn't the problem.  Here is what I did for myself using my old geocities account.

http://www.geocities.com/jhollin1138/todayplus/

The bigger problem is hosting the forum.  There is a personal cost associated to it.  Without knowing to much on what is needed (amount of bandwidth, type of server, etc.)

I have been investigating hosting the forum myself.  The hoster (TotalChoiceHosting (http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/)) I use to host my company's website is relatively inexpensive  and appears to includes phpBB.  I just need more time to investigate.

At this time, I would ask Eitel to keep a back-up.  I might be asking for it next month.  BTW, if someone else beats me to it, all the better.

That sounds great, Eitel said he will have the backup, but I don't know for how long.

I'm also interested but haven't received a reply from Eitel.  I'm looking for some of the same answers that you've asked jhollin1138.  But as long as SOMEONE keeps it going, I'm happy with that.

Eitel, please let me know some details from my private message.  Thanks

I am currently very swamped at work.  If I do host the forum, I will not be able to get everything up and running before then end of this month.

If I do end up hosting the forum, I'll will announce it's return over at Brighthand and PDA Corps.
