Here everything gets in which has to work with the further development of the skin e.g. radar pictures

Have beening waiting to see this up. Should I move all my previous post here?
Wichtel:
I tried this up to 7 radar images at the same time. No problem at all. The radar image will be downloaded first then weather information will be updated. Here is an example of the codes I tried in v1.04ENG (in main page). I also tried to delete all the information in the buffer folder, no problem at all.

I think we should let the post where they are, since otherwise everything is taken out of context. We simply carry on where we have stopped.

This is good news :approve:
Today, I have already had rather strong problems with the normal weather update. For any reason TD+ hasn't fetched the data from the net but of my hard disk. After Clear Buffer and new synchronization the data were from 19.09.04. i have needed 2 hours to manage this. But now there is everything ok again
I am having the same problem here. I am getting 0 Bite files, when I check the buffer.
For the Download Program here is an example for the config file:
http://image.de.weather.com/web/maps/de_DE/satellite/regions/germany_sat_277_nl.jpg
//Proram Files/TodayPlus/images/radar1.jpg
http://image.de.weather.com/web/maps/satellite/regions/europesat_277x187.jpg
//Proram Files/TodayPlus/images/radar2.jpg
and so on for up to 21 cities....

@ joelw135
I have made clear buffer, then i cleaned all tmp files and all Temporary internet files on Pc and PPC after this it worked again. Still have I cleaned the Registry before.
Perhaps it also works at you

Well, my fellow skinners,
Here are two other weather questions:
• How do I get the Amount of Precipitation in my skin?
• How do I get the Hours of Precipitation in my skin?
I've attached an AccuWeather.com pic (example).

You are correct, you can only get "precipitation" as in the chance of rain. See here (http://www.geocities.com/jhollin1138/todayplus/#_Toc60450531).
@Uk_skinner,
@Jhollin1138,
Thanks for your answers!
I knew that it isn't possible in the usual way we play with TodayPlus so far. But I think that there MUST BE POSSEBILITIES to do thoings like this!
We can get radar in our TodayPlus screens now too. Six month ago we didn't imagine that such things were possible.
I hope someone get a brainwave :idea: :idea: :idea:
Maybe by uk_skinner or jhollin1138, maybe by someone else. I bellieve that a devellopers corner can produce nice features for the future :!:
Timmy
I think that this information has to be obtained only with additional programs. The radar data are available at the moment although however still not automatic. We still must press the button to update the data.
Let us solve this problem first before we tackle the next step.

Yeah, and now it works! :D
In the Attachement there are two file, just copy them to "\My Documents\" and start the radar.exe. It should store two radar images to \My Documents\
You can configure in the radar.txt which files will be downloaded and where they have to be stored.
Please give it a try and tell me if it works for u too.

@uk_skinner: I had just to remove the extra chars at the end of the URLs. You´ll get the code, when it works so as expected. As you see, Joelw135 has some problems.
@Wichtel: Do not praise to much. As you see, it doesnt work with too much images
@joelw135: You found the first bug. :D The problem is, in your case my program starts 8 instances of EzDownload. Thats probalby too much. :wink:
I think the program has to wait for each image finished downlading. If we get 20 cities with radar and sat picture, we would have running 40 instances of EzDownload.
I´ll see, if i can modify it, to wait after each picture.
Oh, and can i have a changing URL, you know, the images with Date and time in it. I have some ideas....
With kind regards,
Andre

There is not one EzDownload instance that download two fimages.
The Problem is as follows: When two images are in the radar.txt, my program calls EzDownload two times, and its started two times. When you could look in the Taskmanagr while downloading, there are two entries ´EzDownload´. You have two running EzDownload Instances in Memory.
I hope i could make the point clear. My english is not th best.
I think, i´ll have to check if EzDownlad finished itself after downloading, and then start the next Download.

ya1950: Look the weather section in your local TV station or News website in Israel. Another good place is National Weather center in your contry too. You might find an image you like. At this moment, we only can download the image with "fixed" name. Rotlaus will work on a solution to download the file saved in dynamic name or in dynamic folder. hooloovoo gave me this link http://www.israelweather.co.il/sat.asp. If you fins a good, please share with us too.
Ok, here we go with the next version. The Program waits for each instance of EzDownload finishing. In the zip you'll find a radar.txt with 24 Images, which does work for me.
Please test it and give me some Feedback.

Update: The Radar.exe also can be launched while the weather information is being updated. But, I always get an error message "No.16" was failed. The Message "Could not start EzDownload for Image No. 16" comes when the call of CreateProcess fails. I have no idea when this happnes and why. And i have no idea why the other images are missing. I'll put the code in the Attachment. Maybe u can try starting EzDownload withe the Parameter ShowWindow=1, then u can see the EzDownload Window. I have the next few hours no time for testing.

Andre: I found an issue if I tried to run radar.exe within TP. What I did was to run exe and all 24 radar images were downloaded in /My Documents, no problem. Then I deleted all of them, then run exe in TP again, no problem, all of images were there. But when I tried to delete them and run the third time, some of images were missing and the weather image in the skin were gone too. Exit TP and reload it did not solve the issue, the weather image were still missing. Soft rest did not work it either. The only solution was to do another weather information update (only, no radar image downloading), then everything went back to normal. However, I have not seen this happened yet when you run exe outside of TP. It seemed to me, that when exe finished the downloading, somehow the TP did not complete release it. This might not an issue we could solved within TP. AGain, I also pushed TP too much, downloading 24 images too many times. :roll:
Hey, thank you for the link.
Gentleman! I have found something interesting. I find if I have my Axim in the cradle and try to refresh the radar screens, I don't always complete the update.
But if I am out of the cradle using Wi-Fi I complete the update at least 99% of the time. So what is happening is that the USB 2.0 connection is not fast enough for that large a file to not time out. Until a way is figured to increase the time that EZ-download uses per map we mite have this problem.
Please check out my findings and verify if I am correct.

Joelw135, The time was set for 5 sec per image based on Rotalus. We thought it should be enough, but looks like we need to change that.
Andre, Maybe we can increase to 7 secs. What do you think?
I think that mite work since our storm.exe has been timing out also. The reason I know this is that the image is partially there, and the rest is just distortion.
Rotlaus: The reply email from EzDownload author has been forward to you and I have tried his suggestion. The speed of downloading seemed to be improved if I don't add delay and just closehandle each time. However, I was still having the problem, no files was saved after 24x3 downloading. After reading jolew135's post, I tried to use wi-fi as internet connection, guess what, the problem was gone. I tried up to 10 times without any problem. Right now, it looks to me the peoblem was the ActiveSync. I will try to see how this hold if we call it within Hammerskin... :roll:
@uk_skinner: I implemented the tip from Mr. Masataka too. Works like a charme.
Also new in this exe is, you can put it where you want. No need for 'My Documents' any more. The only restriction is, that the radar.txt have to be in the same directory as the Radar.exe.

I am trying to find a way to download weather image saved in dynamic name or folder. For example, the radar image from http://www.wetteronline.de. Could Wichtel or anyone from Germany can help me figure out how do they post their updated radar image? I know they have image every 15 minutes. Assume, right now, the time is 13:25, the radar image of 13:15 will be posted. Am I right? Also I notice the file name of image looks like 2 hour behind your time. Here is the example, the url for 13:15 is http://www.wetteronline.de/daten/radar/dwdd/2004/09/281115.gif. Any idea? Thanks a lot.

I think this is cause the times on the webpage are GMT-times. Here in Germany we are normally GMT+1, in the summer (DST) we are GMT+2.
Hope that helps.

Thanks. got it.
While you are here.... I figured out how to get time and date string from the systemtime (UTC) and localtime. What I don't know is how to write "if else" to convert minute to close "quarter minutes. For example, if the minute from the systemtime is 09, I would like to use something like this.
if 0 <= minute < 15
qmin = "15"
else
What is the right codes to do this "if else"? I know this is a basic question, sorry to take your time... :oops:

Yes, that seem to be right. The pic should update every 15 Minutes.
But now (13:48 German Time) the pic for 11:45 is not available yet. So
you have to get the pic from 11:30 --> http://www.wetteronline.de/daten/radar/dwdd/2004/09/281130.gif

0 - 15 : The image will be hour-1 :45

@uk_skinner You can use the function GetTimeZoneInformation to get the offset from GMT.
Standard if statement in c:
if(( minute>= 0 ) && ( minute<=15 )){
// do your math
}else{
if(( minute> 15 ) && ( minute<=30 )){
//do your math
}else{

Hi, I would like to ask anyone who is interesting to download radar image from http://www.wetteronline.de/radar.htm try this exe. The systemtime (I believe is UTC and it is matched GMT time zone) was used to calculate the URL for downloading. Hopefully, it will download the most updated radar image from that site. Please give a try and let me know the result.
Just unzip the file and run exe. At this moment the file pathway for downloaded image was set to /My Documents/g1.gif. The new version will allow you to chose where to put your image file just like the one Rotlaus came up. Please check the folder and see the time shown up in image matches the one on the website. Please also post the time you do the downloading, then it will help to pinpoint the way they post their updated image. Thanks.
Works like a charme. Good work. :D
Works very well. Congratulation.
When running the program however the task line from WisBarAdv is shown in the lower task border.
One click on the screen and all this is again correct.
Many greetings.

The action you describe always happens, I am not sure it is a part of EZ-Download or a quirk of Wisbar Advance. It has happened with every radar.exe I have tried. I wouldn't worry about it,it shows the exe is working. :lol:

Ok, now that uk_skinner can download dynamical URLs, i thought about a new config file format:
SURL=http://image.de.weather.com/web/maps/satellite/regions/europesat_277x187.jpg
STOR=\My Documents\radar1.jpg
FORM=
SURL=http://image.de.weather.com/web/maps/de_DE/satellite/regions/germany_sat_277_nl.jpg
STOR=\My Documents\radar2.jpg
FORM=
DURL=http://www.wetteronline.de/daten/radar/dwdd/2004/09/281945.gif
STOR=\My Documents\radar2.jpg
FORM=44,YYYY/MM/DDHHNN
SURL means Static URL.
DURL means Dynamic URL,
STOR means place to store,
FORM tells the program the place and the format of the time/date string in the URL.

Yes, looks like good work too ....

I received a IM from one of the users stating that he had his exe and his text file on his SD card as I do and he ran into a problem. Here is what he stated to me" I would receive an error can't open config file." I told him that I have seen this before. The problem seems to be in the low speed of the SD card compared to the EZ-Download application. I told him to just hit the button to load his exe again by that time the card had become active again and the download would proceed. Just mite be better to use the My Documents for the exe and the text file.
P.S. I have tested this and have found that the EZ-Download has a faster download, and more consistant download than on the SD Card. I still store pictures on SD.
Quote from: BroeselQuote from: uk_skinnerHi, I would like to ask anyone who is interesting to download radar image from http://www.wetteronline.de/radar.htm try this exe.
Hmm, doesn't work under PPC2002 :cry: but would be nice :roll:

Don't worry, Rotlaus got the codes, I believed he will come out ppc2002 version for you..
Quote from: RotlausOk, now that uk_skinner can download dynamical URLs, i thought about a new config file format:
SURL=http://image.de.weather.com/web/maps/satellite/regions/europesat_277x187.jpg
STOR=\My Documents\radar1.jpg
FORM=
SURL=http://image.de.weather.com/web/maps/de_DE/satellite/regions/germany_sat_277_nl.jpg
STOR=\My Documents\radar2.jpg
FORM=
DURL=http://www.wetteronline.de/daten/radar/dwdd/2004/09/281945.gif
STOR=\My Documents\radar2.jpg
FORM=44,YYYY/MM/DDHHNN
SURL means Static URL.

In case of failing to read the config file, i could prog a short delay and try it a second time. So the card is given time to initialize. Somebody knows how long this time should be?
A short delay would be a great idea since 99% of the cards out there are 30X while the other 10% ore 60X. So a short delay in the front of the load would help with the latency of the cards.
It came to my attention that a lot of useres would like to take adavantage to download weather image using radar.exe but don't not know where to start, especially for new comers. I spoke to Rotalus and wrote this small document, hopefully will help you guys to do the initial settting. But, please be patience with me, becuase this is my first time to write this kind of document, forgive my English and forgive me if I spelt wrong words. Here I would like to give credits first.
1) LT: Who, I believe, first to show you can acces radar image within TP. LT, I am waiting your post to show your way to get radar image.
2) Mr. Masataka: His EzDownload program made this easy.
3) Rotalus: The expert to come out the radar.exe allow users to easy configure the downloading site for image.
4) Zapme1: two images from his skin.
5) fishboy: I don't where you are, but I could not live without your skin reference
last but not least.
6) Wichtel: of course his great work for Hammerskin
In this zip file, I include everything you need, I hope :roll:
Weather Image: Word Document
EzDownload.115 zip file
radar.exe: ver0.0.3
radar.txt: only one url and one file pathway
Hammerskin1.04a ENG_R: sample skin
Radar_button2.png and refresh2_img.png
Note: I have not add troubleshooting in the main document. So I guess I will do it here, once I know what are the most frequent problems, I will add into dicument. Also, I expect Rotlaus will post the new radar.exe in these days, I will update the package.
Edit: Due to the limit of upload size, I have to put into 2 zip files, also I have to take the skin reference out. I believe you should be able to find it some other place, if not give me an email, I can send it to you.

@uk_skinner: Great work with the documentation. :approve:
Maybe you can add the possible error codes of the radar.exe:
Could not open the config file!
This message will appear if the radar.exe could not find the config file. The program will terminate afterwards.
Could not read config data No. 1
Uncomplete config data No. 1
One of these message will appear if the radar.exe could not read the config file, mostly because its ended unexpected. The first one comes when the program fails to read the URL, the second one will appear, if it cannot read the storage part.
Could not start\n EzDownload for Image No. 1
This appears when the program couldn't start EzDownload, mostly because it didn't found the EzDownload.exe. Nevertheless the programm will try to read the next image. If EzDownload doesn't exist and u have 20 Images configured, this message will appear 20 times.

I would like share with you my experience to create a new region to display weather image. This is a step further from the weather image previously I posted. The sample skin Hammerskin1.04aENG_R2 was derived from Hammerskin1.04a_ENGR and was included in the zip file. I have to make it clear this is just "my experience" and might not be the most "effective" way. I think, Wichtel will come out a much "smarter" way in his next release..... :wink:
I would like to ask help and input for the weather image I am currently working on. Please see the screenshot (someone needs to teach me how to do the animated screenshot, please).
At this moment I have worked out the concept in Hammerskin. In this page, currently I have 3 "sections":World; USA; Europe
World: From Accuweather.com; 5 regions in it
Atlantic, East Pacific, West Pacific, South Pacific and India ocean.
Tap on the region, a detail satellite image will be opened with default viewer. Becuae of the size of the image, I think it is better use viewer to display, then you can navigate around.
USA: From Accuweather.com, 6 regions in it.
NW,NC,NE,SW,SC,SE
Tap on the regions, you will get radar image for that region.
Europe: From Weather.com; 4 regions in it.
UK (from BBC.com), France, Germany, and Skandinav (I think I spelt wrong).
Tap on it, the detail satellit or radr image will be displayed.
Here are the things I need help from you.
1) More detail image for the coutries in Europe. I will use the link I got from Wichtel to see I can put more detailed image for coutry in Europe. But if you happen to know better one, please let me know.
2) At this moment, I only work at 2nd level. However, I also would like to push it further to more local image for certain country. For instance, BCC provide the local image of UK. What I can do is to divide the local region on UK map and you can tap it to access the image of that area. Is this something useful, or just too much?

Hi,
here is a new Radar.exe. Lot of new Stuff. Cause String Handling in C/C++ is not very comfortable
and i always wanted to learn C# (CSharp) and Dotnet, i have done a complete rewriting of the radar.exe.
New is:
- new format of radar.exe (as previously posted)
- EzDownload is not needed anymore. I do the Downloading of the Images myself
Still missing:
- Handling of Dynamic URLs
Please give it a try. Its still a beta, and maybe buggy. Feedback welcome.
Greetings,
Andre
Forgot to mention something:
In this release the radar.txt have to be in \My Documents\

I tried it and got this. Did not see the file downloaded. Any idea? :roll:
Edit: First time, I put both radar.exe and radar.txt under "My Device" and ran it from there. But when I put them in "/My Documents/" and "/Program Files/, it worked like charm......
I tried it too - no download.
The same as with uk_skinner.

This is weird. The thing you see is my little Window. The Text 'Radar Download' is shown while reading the config file.
You seem to pass the config file test and it should start downloading. Not sure what happend. Did u use the radar.txt i provided?

The bad one is now Rotlaus came out this great exe, it is better to merge this into his new one. That means you have to wait. But, I can send you the old usineg EzDownload, if you want..
uk_skinner,
many thanks. I agree and will be waiting.

On my ToDo list:
- Put a little Frame about my Download Window
- location of radar.txt depending of location of radar.exe
- Do more extensive checking on the config File (for more failsafe)
- Handle Dynamic URLs
- Skinnable? Is this needed? (Only thing I can provide would be a little background image if you wish)
Did i forgot soemething? Comments on the above Points?

Andre:
Lookd this list will keep you busy for a while. The link from wetteronline was a little bit complicated for the ones nas requested. So the format could be tricky in a way. But I have confidence in you. Go Rotlaus!!!
While Rotlaus is going to make his version of radar.exe even better, I would like to test the idea to download "dynamic url". I put a new exe named "wetteronline.exe". It will read the configure text file named "wetteronline.txt". In this text file, the first line is the type of image you want to download and the second line is the file pathway. If you open the text file you will know what I meant. It looked like this:
niederschlag
/Programme/TodayPlus/Images/Radar/wetteronline/niederschlag.gif
nas told me the "niederschlag" is raindrop, right? I believed the image is updated every 30 min however, I have not be able to pin-point the exact time they post on the web. In the text file, I basically put all the type there except there is one is table not image. I put all the type I found from the right side in this site, http://www.wetteronline.de/cgi-bin/aktframe?LANG=de&TYP=temperatur&ART=bild&JJ=xxxx&KEY=DL.
To run it you have to put both exe and txt in the same folder and just tap it in file explorer. At the end of download, a window will pop-up and tell you what the update time. The minutes of update will be either "00" or "30". If you can let me know to see the time is matched to the latest one posted on the site, that will be very helpful.
nas, there will not be a problem for your first and second image, don't worry...
By the way, you need "EZdownload" in /Windows.
Thanks a lot.....
Hi, uk_skinner.
It works good, congratulations.
I tried it this morning. Here are the results:
download / updated
8.31 / 8.00 (2004-10-04)
8.39 / 8.00
8.48 / 8.30
9.21 / 9.00
9.31 / 9.00
9.41 / 9.00
9.46 / 9.30
9.51 / 9.30.
I hope it will help you.
nas
EDIT: But a few times some .gif are not downloaded (only 43b, normaly 7-8k), for example 10.57h: druck.gif, feuchte.gif, temperatur.gif.

nas, did you use ActiveSync to connect internet? This was happened to me before, at that time I was trying to download 24 images and only could go through 3 times (3x24) then no image files can be downloaded any more. However, when I switch to wi-fi, up to 11 times was no problem at all. I hope the new version Rotlaus is working on can solve this problem..
Yes. I am using ActiveSync.
nas
Quote from: nasYes. I am using ActiveSync.

Ok, your finding was consistant to mine. Somehow, the connection to ActiveSync got "partial lost" after too many downloading. I wonder this is the general problem of ActiveSync or not.. :(
I just tried it 7 times with WLAN - everthing was correct.
nas
It looks like the same problem I had with ActivSync. Times out.

Greetings,

Ok, im playing with the dynamic URLs. What parameters do we need?
For example we take this URL:
httx://www.wetteronline.de/cgi-bin/cgi_aktgraph?LANG=de&ART=karte&JJ=2004&MM=10&TT=03&TIME=1400&TYP=schnee&KEY=DL
First of all, we need to know, where r put the formated string, in this example it's 70 (the first character of the year)
So, Position 70=YYYY
So we go on for month, day, hour and minute, so we get something like
FORM=70,YYYY,78,MM,84,DD,92,HH,94,NN
So we know where to put the Date in the URL. But we need to know more. How often does this Server refresh? In this case the RefreshTime is 30 minutes, so we get:
FORM=70,YYYY,78,MM,84,DD,92,HH,94,NN,30,RT
Looks good? I think we need more. How long is the Delay from posted images? When is the 13:00 picture posted? At 13:10? So we get:
FORM=70,YYYY,78,MM,84,DD,92,HH,94,NN,30,RT,10,RD
And we need to know the offset from the URL Time to the UTC time. In our sample its 120 minutes, i think, so we get:
FORM=70,YYYY,78,MM,84,DD,92,HH,94,NN,30,RT,10,RD,120,UO
I think its complete now, and it would be easy to implement this in my program. But on the other Hand that seems a bit complicated for the user.
What are u thinkin bout? Think loud please. :)

Andre: This question was bother me for a while. It will be very complicated for users to find out the position and what kind of parameters you need. Given the facts that every web site has its own way if they do have a dynamic url for image, it is really will be painful for you and users to nail it down percisely every parameters, update time and posted time. What I would like to propose is, at beginning, we can have a specific exe for specific site. For instance, I think we almost get everything covered in wetteronline.de. If users are instersting in other sites that get different format, then an other one can be created. I know, this sounds silly. But in a way, it make things simple. How do you think?

I think this is not a so good idea, cause in a few weeks we will have 20 different exe, all of them only download a special site. It would be easier to take one exe that covers them all. And, it would be easier to build a special radar.txt for users who cant do themselves, than building a exe for each user.

@uk_skinner
@Rotlaus
I also think it is easer with a (may be) Basic_Radar.txt which includes a lot of often used .urls (specifics) from those the users select themself (and create their own .txt).

Yes, everyone can help building a radar.txt, but not everyone can build a new exe.
I disturb only reluctantly your Discussion but you permanently take me to new ideas.
What I could use as user and Skinner would be the following this:
-A program which is able to download up to 10 images
-The images should be stored into two Folders of my choice
-I should be able to use any arbitrary link
-I would like to be able to enter the links in a simple text file
-If possible himself should the program append to the synchronization process of AS and the pictures download automatically
Is it possible to program something like that?

I think so, yes.
I can live with that :D
Perhaps it helps what if I say TD+ watches only the synchronization process of AS and append himself to it.

I can with the say of Rotlaus live, only the dynamic URLs are theoretically missing. However, I think, this he will manage this. If the automatic synchronization doesn't work, this isn't a problem either
Edit: TodayPlus doesn't synchronize of alone, it watches AS and as soon as e.g. an appointment is synchronized TD+ also synchronizes.
I hope for it helps. In the German forum I have written a longer contribution (http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?p=416815#post416815) to it, however, have difficulties with the translation.

Tetsuo:
You did.
That was the reason I asked the help to find weather image. We have a way to download the updated image from internet and display in TP. Thanks for Rotluas and his exe. As long as you can find a good one fit your needs, right now it is possible you can have this added into your weather section in any skin of TP.
If you would like more information or have any quesion, post here and you will get a lot of help.
OK, cool...
I want to display the europe satellite picture in TD+. Do I have to install something more than TD+ ? I saw some code lines in the topic, can someone explain me how it works ???
I know that newbies wants ever more than they knows, but some clarifications are usefull for all comunity...
Thanks for your help, and many thanks for all your amazing job...

Yes, we do need some help from a small exe (developed by Rotluas) to get image downloaded into your device. Once the weather satellite image is in your device, it just likes the other image and TD+ can call it out.
1) The exe Rotlaus made is very good now, it allows you to get image and saved anywhere you wish in your device. This exe also can deal with "dynamic url". Some weather site put the image in different folder depends on the date and time. So once you figure out the url and decide where you want to put your image, then just put them into a simple text (there is a example) and put both exe and txt in the same folder.
2) The second major part is to set your TD+ skin to call out the image. This will be somewhat "tricky" depends on your image size. Most of weather images are not made for PDA. And this is where you can customerize your need. For instance, if your image is too big, you could use offset code to set the center of your image. You can add the label to show your home town. You can make a "functional" tap to lead you to another weather image. The last but not the least is to have button to update your image by calling Rotlaus exe.
Good new is Wichtel will include this feature in his next release. I have been playing around it and get some nice things (I think) work out, include a world storm watch, Europe satelliet image (tap on some country, you will get more details about this conutry), Gemany (from wetteronline.de) and UK (from BBC). I would like to add France, so that, again was the reason I asked for help from you guys.
Thanks for your answer... It's more clear for me... I'll do my best to help you...
Bye
Hi,
first of all i have to apologize myself. I had so less spare time the last two weeks. So the Radar.Exe had to wait until now.
In the Attachement you will find the first Beta Version of the Radar.exe which handle dynamic URLs. The Format String is described in this Message (http://www.jhollin1138.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=9976#9976).
Before praising me too much, give it a try first. It works for me here, but that means nothing.
Greetings,
Andre
Hi Rotlaus
Looks as if so it would work.
I will further tests for the next hours whether the pictures are loaded correctly and report then.
OK first Report
The first Picture Set was of 13:00 and 13:30, Synchronised at 13:50.
The second Picture Set was of 13:30 and 13:30, Synchronised at 14:07 The Radarimage of 14:00 is available on the Server.
Does the Formatstring have to be changed by hand every time to get the last pictures?
After 14:00 nothing at all works more. I append the error messages here and this one used Radar.txt. Perhaps this helps you along.

Did you get any image downloaded?
No nothing more. Every further test ended with the error message. Identical with which Radar.txt (default or modified).
Edit: 17:10 After a Softreset it works fine with my modified Radar.txt. I will try out at 17:40 another test and then report it
Ok, it looks good. :D
The problem with a Softreset could apparently be overcome. However, I will further test it.

At these two samples you see, how the Radar.exe works. On the first Image the RD Parameter is set to 10, on the second image the its set to 35. So on 13:17 it will download the 13:00 pic for the first image, cause the 10 minute delay is gone. For the second image it will download the 12:30 image, cause of the 35 minute delay.
For the Error message I'll have to check some things here. I'll keep u updated.
The Error message u see comes when the Program tries to download a file that doesn't exist on the webserver. I'll have to catch these error up.
But anyway it should work. Its 18:14 here (UTC+2) and it works just fine. It download for the first sample the 18:00 pic, and for the second the 17:30 pic.

Great. So we are independent from this timezone stuff with the radar.exe.
Another issue i saw. The program does not work with URL which change less than all 60 minutes. So any RT parameter >= 60 will not work.
I have got an error message again. I could manage for me through this which took the PPC out of the Cradle and has put in again. AS has synchronized newly and I could the pictures download again. But the problem appears apparently every half hour.

Ok, that was the same thing happened to me. As long as you use AS as internet connection, then there will be a problem after you download certain times. nas also experineced the same probelm. It was due to unknown reason from AS. You have to take it out and re-syn again then you can start to download.

Yes, testing......
Andre:
Here are some testing results:
I used url addresses posted by Wichtel and repeat radar image download twice and three time for stock.png. Total is 14 radar images and 12 stocks. After each downloading, I deleted all the files before I tried again.
1) Use AS as a internet connection test 6 times. After 3 times (all images downloaded), the error message showed up. They looked like the ones Wichtel posted. There were 14 radar images and 8 stock png downloaded (1st time error). None of stock.png was downloaded (2nd time error). Only one radar image downloaded (3 rd time).

I believe Rotlaus is still working on this issue. I got some problem when I tried to download 14 radar images and 12 stock charts (26 files) at a time. Initially, the files were downloaded but when I tried to repeat the donwloading, only partial files were downloaded. The third time the number of files downloaded was decreased. :oops: :(

I was under impression that Wichtel will include the radar image in his next release. However, I don't know the details how he will download the image. Assumption is to use Rotlaus's exe. Hopefully, Wichtel will give us some update if he shows up at this forum today. I am waiting too... :lol:
Oh boys bad news
My Loox has died today. :cry: I have buried him here (http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?t=56996).
I think it still will last for something until the publication of the version 1.05. As a spare equipment I have chosen a hx4700 for me and there are difficulties with supply with us everywhere at the moment.

Great, you are getting the new VGA hx4700. Does that mean you will make new skin for VGA.... Wow.... :dance:

Ok, I still have my 4355, if you need someone to test QVGA version. So the hx4700 has not been released in German yet or just not easy to get? Are you getting the German OS?
Already there is the hx 4700 with us. At the moment, many dealers simply have difficulties with supply because HP cannot deliver.

No problem. I will change the pathway and post here later. This is just a quick-and-dirty version. Using the hard code is much easier to test. Later, I will try to come up the more user-friendly version.
Your eyes are good. The way I made it work was as below.
1) I let EzDownload to download the html (as you provided) and saved as .txt (EV.txt). The souce of html will be saved.
2) Extract the image url from that text file. If you open that you will see it is in there.
3) Once I got the right xxxx.jpg, I just passed to EZDownload and do the downloading.
Based on their "warning", the image was updated every 10 minutes, I guess. So within the time frame of this exe running, you should be no problem to get image downloading.
In the future, I can let program to delete the EV.txt after downloading the image and will not occupy the space. Or I can also let exe save it in your storage space.
UK_skinner,
Thanks for your simple explanation! It's to understand, even for me...
I gave the program several trials, and all is good, so far! I only have to click four times to leave the program:
- Question: this file lready exsists. Resume Overwrite Cancel
- Notification OK
- EZ Download v1.15 OK
- EarthViewer.txy DL OK
Maybe, in the future, all can work automatic?!?
Thanks!
Timmy
Timmy:
Sorry, the one I sent to you is very prototype and I just wanted make sure everystep was right and I should remove it before post here. In the future, all these will disappeared. Perhpas, just a final pop-up window says "download success". :oops:

You and me can be glad: IT WORKED!!! EVERY STEP!!! :D :D :D

Timmy:
Try this.
1) Two images (EV01.jpg and EV02.gif, yes the 2nd one should be .gif) will be downloaded into /Program Files/TodayPlus/Images/Radar/
2) The two text files (EV01 and EV02) will generated in the same folder. I will try to remove them after you testing it.
3) No more window will pop-up. I still want to add a final window to tell you the downloading finished. It will take about 10 s to do both images.
The previous one was removed to avoid further confusion.
BTW, you probably have special "eyes" to penetrate the EV02.gif.. :lol: :shock:

I realy appreciate your good work!!!I'm astonished...
Most of my wishes of earlier posts are fullfilled...
You've made fast progress...
--> All the three steps go as you wrote, so everything is OK here too! I didn't met any problem. :approve:
UK_skinner, you are planning to add a final window to tell people the downloading is finished. I speak for myself: I don't prefer that. I think, the less you see of the downloadingprocess, the better! Don't forget that there are at least four downloadingprocesses for TodayPlus:
- the information from AccuWeather
- the information via Radar.exe
- the information via EarthViewDL.exe
- some animated gifs via Internet Explorer

@ALL,
I tried to let Radar.exe automatic by putting a shortcut in the \Windows\StarUp directory. Then I put my PocketPC in the cradle. The PPC goes on, and ActiveSyns starts. But Radar.exe didn't work...
Does anybody knows a way to let Radar.exe do his work automatic???
Timmy
Timmy,
Did you remember that Radar.exe, AND Radar.txt must be together in the same folder ?? :?:

ZapMe1,
Yes, they are both in the same folder.
It works fine on my PPC, but I can't get it
automatic starting when I use ActiveSync. Hope, someone gets a good idea to solve this.

Timmy:
I did try to put a shortcut in the Startup folder too. The radar.exe did start if I do a soft reset. However, the problem was the internet connection was not ready before the radar.exe kincked int and I got an error message. I think it is possible but need to do more "digging"..

UK_skinner,
I've met the same problem. Hope, there's a solution...
Timmy
Timmy:
I have a not so perfect solution. A small exe (not again???) can detect internet connection, if yes, then it will launch radar.exe. If not, it will try 3 times (5 seconds apart) then quit.
If I put it in StartUp folder, it will slove our problem.
Questions:
1) Where is your radar.exe?
2) Is radar.exe the only one you wish to automatically start? If not, I need know the file pathway.
This again will be quick-dirty exe for you testing. Later I can come up some "user-friendly" version if anyone is intersting.
Timmy:
It is possible to monitor the AS status and trigger the automatic downloading. But it will require to let a program continuous running at background. No clue how it will affect the memory, although it is quite a small exe.

UK_skinner,
I think you are very near to the solution of this problem!!! Before you do, I have a question for you. Can you:
• òr make 10 from the 3 times launch,
• òr make 15 (or 20) instead of the 5 seconds apart?
If you can manage thàt, the problem would be gone...
Now the answers to your questions:I have two programs to launch automatically :
• \My Documents\Radar\Radar.exe
• Program Files\EarthViewDL.exe
Good luck!!!

I found an entry in my Notify Queue. Is there any solution to make the same with the Radar.exe ?

Yes, I can make program try 10 times and each times is 15 (or 20) seconds apart. But I think I miss something here. You will only need it when you start-up right? Usually it will take just several seconds for AS to establish internet connection. Why you do you need program try so many times? Once the program detect internet and will call radar.exe or other program you wish to run, then will exit. Do you want it stay ta background all the time?

Thanks. And I think you give me some idea.
Timmy:
At this moment, I was able to run radar.exe at wake-up without problem. Wichtel might point out some way here. The radar.exe will execuate automatically after my device wake-up. I need to tweak a lilltle bit becuase it will be quit annoy if you don't have internet connection when the device wake-up.

UK_skinner,
No, I don't want the program to the background all the time. Only when I connect my PPC to the computer to sync, no longuer.
NOTE: It can take, sometimes, a longer time to sync. And when your new-to-make program don't have enough time, it stops without doing his job. Only for that reason it did my suggestions.
Timmy
Timmy:
Check your email, I made an exe for you. Just tap it and it will add two programs you posted above into the "Notification" list.
It is not perfect yet, but please try it. After you tap it, it will have a pop-up window to tell you. You onlly need to run once. At this moment, it will start the downloading when you connect your device and "click" the "sync" in AS on PC. I don't know why, it only works in that way. Nothing happened to me if I connect device without clicking "Sync".
I will continue to see I can make it better.
Timmy:
Ok, here are what I have done so far. Maybe a little bite complicated but it was not so bad.
A small exe (yes, again) can detect internet connection (by testing www.google.com) within n times x m seconds (I tested 4 x 5). If yes, it calls downloading program (ie. radar.exe).
I can get it work under these 3 conditions, not complete perfect yet.
1) If your device is off and connect to PC, the device wake-up and internet detected, the downloading will run.
2) If you soft-reset, ad still connect to internet, the downloading will run.
3) If your device connect to PC and click Sync at PC, the downloading will run.
1) and 3) require to add the small exe to the Notification list (this can be done by SKtools or I have a small exe can do that) and 2) reuire to make a shortcut of small exe (not downloading exe) into StartUp folder.
GoodNight and Happy New Year!!!

@All,
One of my radar-pics has a type, not described so far in this fourum. The URL is: http://www.weer.nl/indexa.html
Then click: Europa --> Neerslag
The four results, depending on the time of downloading:
01:00 uur http://www.weer.nl/images/weer/kaarten/europa/eur_obs_rrnr00001.jpg
07:00 uur http://www.weer.nl/images/weer/kaarten/europa/eur_obs_rrnr00002.jpg
13:00 uur http://www.weer.nl/images/weer/kaarten/europa/eur_obs_rrnr00003.jpg
19:00 uur http://www.weer.nl/images/weer/kaarten/europa/eur_obs_rrnr00004.jpg
As for as I noticed in this thread, there is no solution in using the next example from Wichtel's Radar.txt:
DURL=http://www.wetteronline.de/daten/radar/dwdd/2004/10/162100.gif
STOR=\Programme\TodayPlus\Images\Radar\radar1.png
FORM=45,YYYY,50,MM,53,DD,55,HH,57,NN,30,RT,10,RD,0,UO
Does anybody know a way of downloading the latest picture of the day?!?

The times you see here are the times the satellite took the pcture. But the picture is placed on the URL some times later. I'll have to test how much later the picture is placed. So, wait for me, till I know what's the delay-time.

Here are the answers to your questions:
• I don't want a window that tell's me that the downloading has finished.
• The filename is 'Rain1.jpg'.
• My time zone is GMT+1
• Last week I downloaded PHM Powertools, and tried it. But I'm a totally layman in this kind of things. Don't tell others: I didn't understand how it worked... :oops: :oops: :oops: :oops: :oops:

Here you see the results of the test:• Downloads before 10:15 --> nr. 1 from 1:00 hour (today). That's OK.
• Downloads after 10:15 (did some tests till 11:00 hour) --> nr. 4 from 19:00 hours (yesterday). That's wrong.

UK_skinner,
My weerDL.exe is in: \Program Files\
Timmy
Timmy:
Here it is.
To add "weerDL.exe" into the notification quene:
1) Unzip it and copy to anywhere in your device.
2) Tap it and the pop-up window will notify you when it is done.
3) Just do once, otherwise you will have mutiple list. If that does happen, just delete the replicates as described below.
To remove/edit any quene from the list.
Warning: Only remove the ones you added, such as radar.exe, EarthViewDL.exe and weerDL.exe. If you remove any other important ones from there, your system will be lock-up.
1) If thought you have downloaded PHM Power Toy(freeware), if not here is the link.
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/PowerToys/
2) After installation, Start-->Settings-->System-->Schedule Tasks you will see a list of your notification.
3) Find the one you wish, such as weerDL.exe. Tap it, you can see the pathway of application and arguments (AppRunAfterSync). You can edit the both if you wish.
AppRunAfterSync: The Application will run after you carry out a sync.
AppRunAfterWakeup: The Application will run after the device wakeup.
there are others you can find in this link. But some of them were defined but not supported (that means they are not functional).
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/217159/EN-US/
4) To remove it, just tap and hold it on the list. You will see a pop-up options where you can select "delete".
If later you have any other utility program (either freeware or commercial one), you probably can add it through the program. I know SK Tools can do that.
UK_skinner,
First of all: thank you (again!) for your help! I appreciate that!
In the second place, something about some programs:
As I didn't want to ask you everytime to do things for me, I've tried to work with the freeware program PHM Pocket Toys. But in the notifications page I couldn't fill in anything. Although I tried it on many ways! So I deleted that program.
Some days ago Wichtel and you talked about SK Tools. First I tried to do something with the freeware programs they have, but that was not what I was seeking for. So this morning I bought SK Tools, the program you mention in your last post. I have to studie to understand what all the possibilities are, but what I've seen so far: an impressive program that makes it possible to do many things on a PocketPC!
So UK_skinner: in the future I have to ask many things to you and other skinners, but NOT the question: "Can you make this program automatic starting..."
Thanks again for all your help,
Timmy
Timmy, if you got SK Tools then you can do it from there.
Goto "Notify Quene", then you can see "Action" at the bottom. You should be able to select "Add". Then you can add you exe when an event happened.
As for your Big question:
Quote"Can you make this program automatic starting..."
At this moment, I only can make downloading program automatically starting under these conditions:
1) When you carry out a Sync (by changing something in your agenda or click "Sync" or if you have Mobile Favorites will sync onc you connect).
2) When device wakeup.
3) When you connect to Wi-Fi (ZapMe1's post).
Maybe there are somethings in ActiveSync I have not totally understanding yet...I also download the latest AS 3.8 but looks like no improvement..
UK_skinner,
Thanks for your Tips!! The things are going on my PocketPC like you wrote! Thanks!

Oh, boy...I forgot what did I do for Timmy. Please correct me if I said it wrong.
I think you don't need to have EV01.txt or EV02.txt, the exe will use EzDownload to download them from the site and extract the information from the text file.
nas, did you have EzDownload.exe in \Windows\? I remembered I could not use the radar.exe to download the html into txt from that site.
I will check the site you post here was the same or different from Timmy's.

Yes, it is. In which directory I have to copy EarthViewDl.exe? I tried it with a few - at last in Program Files, but... --> Could not open EV.txt file!

Ok, I will PM you the one I have right now. And try it again. I believe you can put in any where, but I would suggest try to put on the main RAM first, then move it later.
Ok, I see the reason. This exe need /Program Files/TodayPlus/Images/Radar folder to store the EV01.txt and EV02.txt. Do you have this folder in your device? If not, could you please create one and test it again? If it works, and let me know your desired file pathway and I can make one for you.

Only read or do something with this post if you have time!
I'm downloading at the moment 22 SURL's with Radar.exe. Isn't it lovely...
But in my notificationbox I don't see WHAT pics or textfiles it is downloading. That's due to the long path I use.
Is it possible for you to make NOT to be seen the pathname, but ONLY the .txt or .png or .jpg or .gif???

Timmy:
I was not the one who made radar.exe, Rotlaus did. He did send me the source code but it is in C#. I am learning this language too but I have not a somplier set up for it yet. So, it will be a long shot for me.
