Title: Hammerskin Performance
Post by: JTod on September 28, 2004, 09:10:38 PM
Hi all,

Let me start by saying that I love the Hammerskin skin.  Question: Is there anyway to improve its performance?  Although it has many functions, it is sluggish.  Have any of you thought about ways to improve its performance?

JTod:  I agree with you and I beleive Wichtel is doing it.  I can tell that he made some change from v1.03 to v1.04a, not major ones but he has moved and improved some of codes.  Through trouble shooting with user from all over the world, he will improve the performance.  However, we should also pray that srs will show up and work TP again, because the skinner only can do so much.  So many of key things need to be addressed in the TP.

I agree 100% what you both are saying! But we all have to admit that this application is amazing in what it can do now. Think what it would be able to do if it was continued. Even for a Beta it is extremely stable.

Thanks for the replies and you guys are probably right that performance is best improved by modifying TP.

One area, however, that might be useful to work on in the skin is how the skin refreshes data.  Refreshes seem to cause TP to hang from time to time, which can be annoying.

Just a thought,

JTod

I agree entirely. I sometimes get mildly frustrated as the whole page refreshes & becomes temporarily unusable. However for what this skin does, it's worth the hassle. Any improvement will surely be welcome but like the man says this is ONE VERY STABLE beta! :approve:

Unfortunately, I want to answer here only today, since an excavator has destroyed the Internet connection in our region yesterday.

The construction of the Skin causes a slow reaction in some regions. Unfortunately, short-term isn't possible to change this.  Yesterday morning, I still could read this Posting, last night, after that, I have still tried to improve something.  However, I could cause only imperceptible improvements.
Here I have noticed very fast again that we have only a beta software us at the disposal. Some code are very simply missing to make this skin a little better.  I think we will have to accept this and should simply try to make the best from this.

Never mind, Wichtel! We can live with it as it's beautiful as is! Again well done! :approve:

So sorry about your connection. Hope it improves soon.

Thank God this isn't my problem   An excavator has damaged the Internet road junction in Munich so large parts of Bavaria have been cancelled.  But it is already strange if one doesn't have access to the Internet, I have got quite nervous
