Title: Problem in setting up radar
Post by: qianbi0000 on December 03, 2004, 02:27:15 PM
Hi, when I update teh radar(either in weather page or in satellite&Radar menu), it always feeds back an error message:

Radar.exe
WebException
Can not find the program
HttpWebRequest::finishGetResponse+0*46
HttpWebRequest::GetResponse+0*c
Form1::ReadDataFromWeb+0*2c
Form1::Form1_Load+0*2x
Form::_SetVisiiblenotify+0*1d
Control::set_visible+0*1f
Application::Run+0*7
Form1::Main+0*c

What's the problem?

Also, I use the Radar picture at http://www.weather.gov.hk
such as: http://www.weather.gov.hk/wxinfo/intersat/satimg/041203_1623s.jpg
How should I set up the Form at Radar.txt?

Thanks in advance

Questions:

1) Can you see any image at all when you at city or satellite/radar page?

2) Where did you put your radar.exe and radar.txt?

3)  Have you set up athe apps-7-1 point to radar.exe in configure?

4) Do you have any image file in the radar1 or radar folder?

5) Have you tried the default radar.txt and got images downloaded?

If you can, post the screenshot of radar page.

2. I put the radar folder in \My Documents\;
3. I also combine radar.exe in Apps-7-1;
4. As said above, in radar folder only has 1.jpg, in radar1 folder have 1,2,3,4 four pictures;
5. I tried several radar.txt, the problem is same;
6. The system I use is DOPOD 696(XDA II China version), windows mobile 2003 SE. I also tried in wm2003, problems remains.

Thanks for your kindly assistant!

Hi qiambi0000,

One thing you may want to check is a problem that we've been seeing here a lot..
Check every line in your radar.txt file, and make sure that there is not any additional "spaces" at the end of the text !!

If you find any spaces, delete them, and re-save, then try to run again !!

Post by: qianbi0000 on December 03, 2004, 10:47:13 PM
Thanks ZapMe1, I check the radar.txt and found 1 space in the lastest line. I deleted it and reload the TP. But the error remains.

Quote2. I put the radar folder in \My Documents\;

Is Radar.exe in your \My Documents folder along with the Radar.txt ??

Also, one other thing to check in the Radar.txt, is that you hit "enter" after the very last line in the txt file !!

Yes, the radar folder with both radar.exe and radar.txt under \My Documents.

What do you mean "hit enter" after the "very last" line of the txt? I just uses the original radar.txt download and replace the SURL.

You had said that you found one space in the last line of the radar.txt..  After the last line : FORM=   Make sure there are no more spaces after the "=", then hit Enter on your keyboard to go to the next line, then re-save the file !!

The error was caused by /Radar2 folder.  The exe could not find the folder therefore quit from there.  The problem should be gone once you correct back to /Radar.

qianbi0000,

Here is a "correct" radar.txt, and I also included a new Radar.exe...  They work on my device..   Try replacing "both" files, and try again !!

Long shot, but maybe there is something wrong with your Radar.exe also !!!

Is your device Chinese OS or you insatll Chinese language software?  If you have English OS, can you turnoff the Chinese Language then try again?  You also can try to download the radar.exe again to rule out the possibility of corrupt of exe.

The things puzzled me were that you did download some files before, right?  When you tried the new radar.txt, did you see the ones you downloaded previoused got updated again?  Previous, you only saw 1.jpg in Radar folder, how about now?

If you did download images before, I think it might not be the problem of Chinese OS.

What I would like to suggest you is:

1) Deleted all he images in Radar and Radar1 folder.
2) Redownload the radar.exe and get radar.txt from ZapMe1 just posted.
3) Make sure the exe and txt in the same folder and tap the exe.
4) Check what files are downloaded even you get the error message.
5) If you do get the same error message,and do get some images.  Start to remove url address from the bottom one by one.  You probably will find which one is the problem.

No my laptop is english. I tried to delete all the file in radar and radar1 folder, and delete all lines in radar.txt, then add lines one by one. i find if there is only one url it seem ok, if have two or more urls, the error appears.
such as:

is ok

and
SURL=http://image.weather.com/images/sat/asiasat_277x187.jpg
STOR=\Program Files\TodayPlus\Images\Radar1\2.jpg

is ok

but if:
SURL=http://image.weather.com/images/sat/east_asiasat_277x187.jpg

FORM=
SURL=http://image.weather.com/images/sat/asiasat_277x187.jpg

Can you still check what is encoding?  Did you make any change in your PC when you tried use the default radar.txt?  I am still try to figure out, how comes you can download 4 jpg in Radar1 folder before you have "/Radar2" problem.  In my text file, the encoding is "ANSI".  If yours is not, you might want to try this.

qianbi,

Ok, this should work for you !!   :pray:

The attached zip file contains (2) files:   EZDownload.exe  & qianbi_radar.exe

1) Copy EZDownload .exe to :   \Windows

2) Copy qianbi_radar.exe to :    \my documents

3) Delete 1,2,3,4.jpg files from your radar1 & radar folders to ensure new images are downloaded

4) Modify your skin file to call qianbi_radar.exe instead of the radar.exe that you have now !!

Your images should be downloaded..  (4) in Radar1 & (4) in Radar

I assumed that the path to your radar folders is:

\program files\todayplus\images\radar1
&
\program files\todayplus\images\radar

If this is different, let me know...   Good Luck !!!   :D 8)

But something strange: at first in radar folder i only find 1.jpg and 2.jpg and all 4 jpgs in radar1 folder. when update again, i found 1.jpg, 2.jpg and 3.jpg in radar folder and 4 jpgs in radar1 folder. update again, still three jpgs in radar folder..

And ZapMe1, could u tell what's the diffrence between ezdownload, qianbi_radar.exe and radar.exe? I think it is confuse but interesting..

qianbi:

  The EzDownload was used at early stage to download image via http becuase it is free and can be call out via a simple exe.  However, the whole package could be bulky depends how you do it.

 Your url address were hard code into qianbi_radar.exe and you can not change it unless you install evc3/evc4 and get the codes from ZapMe1.

The ones I sent to you was modified and can read the url and file pathway from a text file but still use 2 exe to do the downloading, EzDwonload and radar.exe.  But it is easier if you want change the url and file pathway. It was Rotlaus who developed by his own and came out the one we are using right now.  Only one exe and txt need.  For some reason, it did not run well in your device.

quanbi,
I tried this again on my device, and I had all 8 images downloaded..  Maybe the connection you have is part of the problem..   Maybe we could split up the 8 images you have into 2 exe files, to only download 4 at one time !!  You could still use one tap in your skin to do both updates!!

The difference in EZDownload and Radar.exe is just like UK_Skinner said in his post..   Radar.exe uses a user-changable txt file, and EZDownload uses a "hard coded" exe that can only be changed by using Embedded Visual Basic 3.0 or 4.0, which is available from Microsoft !!  :D

Just let you know, the qianbi_radar.exe did not have any "error" report codes.  In other words, you will have no information provided to you if something goes wrong.  It was designed to run in the background.  When everything works, great.  But if there is an error, it is tough to do trubleshooting.

The radar.exe was devloped by a Professional Programer and gets better control and error repoting system.

If you can use qianbi_radar.exe to download all the images then you probably have no choice to use it.

Maybe..  I will try to split the 8 images into 2 exe's, and send them to you !!  If this still don't work, then UK_Skinner had an idea of adding a small delay to the exe file to maybe help with your type of network !!

I think ZapMe1 will make you two exe and to see you can download 4 at one time and eventually get all 8 downloaded.  Personally, I have no experience with gpsr connection.

But it will slow down for the downloading.

Old question, can you get internet connection through ActiveSync?  If it does and no problem to download the 8 images, then we know it is your gpsr connection may be the key.. Just a thought for you to try.

Quote from: qianbi0000ok i will try activesync.. but personally i like gprs for you can update data every where and no needing a pc

qianbi:  I agree with you.  Testing image download via activesync just to confirm that your problem was due to the connection speed.  If that so, we could tweak the downloading time to allow you dowload all the image you need.  I have no experience with gprs.  Do you know what the downloading speed?  Is this also depends on the "strength" of siignal you have?

qianbi,

The attached zip file contains 2 files :

qianbi.exe  :  Which will download images to radar folder
qianbi1.exe :  Which will download images to radar1 folder

You could try linking "both" of these files to your Radar button in your skin, so all will be updated at once !!
If this setup still doesn't work, then UK_Skinner is working on adding a small delay to see if this would help !!

Good Luck !!!!  :D
