Post by: uk_skinner on December 14, 2004, 12:47:13 PM
Per Abram requested, here is the reduced version of Hammerskin Version 1.05.4 QVGA.

There is about 29 pixels at the bottom for you to have one Today Plugin.  I tested most of the function, but please let me know if there is anything needs to be fixed.

Sounds you still have the problem to get the radar work.  Can you post the url you wish to use, then some of us can generate a radar.txt for you to test?

Abram:

There is no problem for the second one, it is a fix url.  I need to play around the first one, it looks like a dynamic one to me.  I saw a date "151204" and a possible update time "1200".  I will see I can find a pattern or not.

I'd like to use a similar picture (so I'll be able to use your calculations) http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/maps/norwf1512041200t024symsxxxx.jpg

How would I get the forecast in too (ie have two pictures instead of one for my city)?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/maps/norwf1512041200t048symsxxxx.jpg

In actual fact, there are loads of maps that can be brought in, wind, rain, temperature, both for today and tomorrow...

There are so many options too, how about showing rainfall over a period...

So many options!  :)

Here is something I don't quite understand.  :wall:  :wall:

It seemed to me that the images from bbc are saved as "yesterday" date.  For example, today is 16Dec and the file we saw on the web got "151204".  And yesterday's image (Wednesday) had "141204" tag in the file.  Well, this is something different from we anticipated when Rotlaus developed the program.  I will try and let you know what happened.

Alternatively, I can come up the one using EZDownload to get image (I only know how to tweak it).  To make radar.exe handle this situation, we have to wait Rotlaus has spare time to work on it.

For the users who wish to download the image from www.bbc.co.uk, here is a package for you.  It will use EzDownload to download the image with "date" fromat, for insatnce:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/maps/mancf1512041200t024symsxxxx.jpg
or
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/maps/norwf1512041200t024symsxxxx.jpg

There are total 13 images, from East to West.

The bbcimagedl.exe will download the image based on the parameters you generate in bbcimagedl.txt.

For example : http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/maps/norwf1512041200t024symsxxxx.jpg

the format in the .txt file should be:

norwf
\Program Files\TodayPlus\Images\Radar1\1.jpg

Remember to hit "enter" at the end of each line.
Please see example if you still have question.

Here is the step-by-step instruction:

1) Unzip the files and you should find 3 files (bbcimagedl.exe, bbcimagedl.txt and EzDownload.exe)
2) Copy EzDownload.exe to \Windows (at this moment, this is the only place, it is possible to tweak the registry to launch it from other places)
3) Copy bbcimagedl.exe and bbcimagedl.txt to TodayPlus folder (you can put in anywhere but both exe and txt has to be the same place)
4) First try to run bbcimagedl.exe in file explorer.  You should see something happened at the bottom of your task bar due the action of EzDownload.
5) When the downloading is finished (depends on how many images your do, it will take about 3 secs/image),  go to the "/Program Files/TodayPlus/Images/Radar1" to see you have your images.  If you use the included .txt, you should have 1-13.jpg.  Open them with your image viewer to make sure the images are right.

As for how to incorporate into Hammerskin1.05.4, there are several options:
1)  Make a shortcut (apps-7-2) point to bbcimagedl.exe and add a update code in the weather updateing code area.
2)  Make a seperate update icon in the radar area to update the images seperately.

If you can let me know what is your preference, I will walk you through to add the code.

Final note, this is different from radar.exe.  Without Rotlaus around, I don't know how to tweak radar.exe to do this downloading.  If Rotlaus see this post, I believe he will come out some solution.  My way is just a temp before that happened.  As for those images with fixed url, you still can use radar.exe to download them.

1) What is your device? PPC2003 or PPC2002?
2) What is your internet connection? ActiveSync? Wi-Fi? GPSR?
3) Did the 4 you downloaded looked right?

grayme:

This is 2002 version.  It works on my 2003 device.  Please try it and let me know the result.  This time, you will see a window shows the updated date and time after download finished.  If you don't like the format of date and time, let me know, I can change it.

Please note the exe name is bbcimagedl2002 so you have to keep this name for your txt file too.

Ok, just went to site.  Yes it is possible. I think you can rorate the rain image and get some kind of slow animated image.  You can just use radar.exe to do the downloading.  The url are :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/live/brradar1.jpg

There are total 7 images for 6 hours, just download 1-7 then you have it.

Would it be a big thing to get TodayPlus to play through them? Or are we stuck with the 3 second update?

To let these pictures rotate, these should be in a region of their own. Then you  must have a code  as in the case of the newsticker of the Mainpage. Then this  should work without problems.

That can be handled really simple in my opinion. Example:

The pics are called 1.jpg .... to 7.jpg

initvar,var4,1  // initialize var
.
.
.
.
region,0,0,10
image,0,0,%var4%.jpg
addvar,var4,1
if,var,var4,,>,7
storevar,var4=1
else
endif
.
.
.
.
endregion,0,0

Every 10 seconds (update of the region) the next pic is displayed.

Give it a try

Can we get that down to three seconds or less?

Thanks Wichtel and Broesel.

First, I was trying to use Wichtel's idea to put a daughter region in region,7,7 and tried to use the codes Wichtel did for newsticker in main page.  That did not work, the images did not rotate and frozen all the buttons in that region. :wall:

I guessed I was too ambitious becuase I just want to do the images rotation when var51 = 1 and still be able to look other images in that region.  So the idea was to:

if,var,var51,,=,1
  image,x,y,r%var2%.jpg
  addvar,var2,1
  if,var,var2,,=,8
   storevar,var2=1
   else
    endif
else

   image,%var3%,%var23%,%var51%.png
   image,%var3%,%var23%,%var51%.jpg
   image,%var3%,%var23%,%var51%.gif

endif

However, it did not work....

Post by: Broesel on December 18, 2004, 12:22:29 PM
:(  Don't know, why it doesn't work for you, I just tried this:

if,var,var26,,=,1
image,0,0,%var1%.png
addvar,var1,1
if,var,var1,,>,7
storevar,var1=1
else
endif
else
image,0,0,folder.bmp,t
endif

and it worked well.
Try to move  the complete code at the beginning of the region, sometimes
that works better. In my test, that code was the first after region, ... and some initalisations.

Thanks again, broesel.

I am still doing the "hunting" the problem.  I was trying to adopt  the idea into region,7,7 without any luck.
