Title: TodayPlus+ "Wish List"
Post by: ZapMe1 on March 29, 2005, 02:52:00 PM
I thought that I would start a new thread that could contain all of the "Ideas" & "Wishes" that the users would like to possibly see in TP Skins !
I know we have come a long way, with many Great new items to display, but I'm sure others out there have more ideas...  8)

My big wish (at this moment) is :  "TV Listing as RSS Feed"

One possible source:  Zap2it TV Listing (http://tvlistings2.zap2it.com/grid.asp?partner_id=national)

UK & I have talked a little about this in the past, but with the Great PHP & EXE skills that are consistantly getting better, I think we may be able to do this !!  :D

My wishlist is to have a dedicated button where I can load Traffic Images.  Currently I'm using the Sat & Radar Image button from the Weather screen.  which works well.  It'll be nice if there can be a dedicated button.   :D

My original UniSkin1.0 has a dedicated Traffic button, and also my new UniSkin2.0 VGA has it also with (2) traffic locations..  Here is a preview !
(I'm sure Wichtel can add this to HammerSkin)

Zapme.  once again i appreciate the super fast response..!

The program I'm using is "ImageViewer", which was donated by UK_Skinner, and can be found Here ! (http://www.jhollin1138.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1705&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0)

And the traffic map image can be gotten by following the instructions in This Thread ! (http://www.jhollin1138.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1725)
About half way down the page is instructions for Traffic Map & RSS..

If you decide to use them, follow the instructions, and if you need help, just ask !!!  :approve:

Hi all,
I use sprite backup so I recover from hard resets easily. However  sometimes you do need to clean install most progs and I find it really hard to set up my TP from scratch, Date Abbrev, Shortcuts (esp Shortcuts), POOM, Weather/RSS (this as well). In fact, it is my most dreaded part of the clean install/hard reset..

Is there anyway to capture these settings as a backup file ( maybe executable or just import/export settings to storage card somewhere)? So for a clean install the procedure will be:- hard reset, install TP, import settings et voila ready to go!

Is this possible or am I still dreaming?? Please, PLEASE, tell me it is!!!

This MAY be possible and has been suggested to our dedicated .exe programmer.  Give it some time and you just might see this.

The free (and freely available) PHM Registry Editor 0.70 allows you to backup and restore the registry, including TodayPlus settings located there.

ZapMe1,

I've got a headache of thinking... What more things can we put in TodayPlus... It's such a complete program with so much features in it... What do I wish more... Thinking... Thinking... Thinking... All the things I wanted, were made ready here at this forum... Thinking... Thinking...  Thinking...  My headache is growing...

You see: I did my best to create new thoughts! But today I have no new ideas. Maybe tomorrow or next week.

My only wish now is to get TodayPlus a little bit faster. In the coming years the program will be too slow in comparision with other programs. And my second wish is that there will be a successor for TodayPlus in the coming years, because there will come a time that TodayPlus don't work together with new operating systems.

But ZapMe1, I promise: if I get other wishes, I'll put them in the forum! You know me...

For SRS to come back and give us a new version before TodayPlus stops running on "Pocket PC 2k?".

Hi Abram,

dgmele is correct !!  PHM Registry Editor does a fine job of backing up the registry..  With that and a good file backup, I have been able to restore TP pretty easy after the (few) hard resets I've had !!  Get it Here ! (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/)

It wasn't many months ago that we thought we had a complete program with TP.. And we did, but look at where we are today !!!   I don't think any of us will give up adding new features..  We will think of more..  After all, we have UK !!  :D    Let your headache settle for now Timmy !!

I totally agree, Jim !!  If SRS came back and incorporated all the new features we've come up with, plus added his own great thoughts, then we really would have everything a PPC could ever want !!!!!  8)

(P.S. - Jim, go to a 2k3 device, and you'll at least get an extra year !   )

TascalRegEdit (TRE) 0.90 allows you to export/import just the TodayPlus (HKEY_CURRENT USER/Software/SRSSoft) settings, which PHM Registry Editor does not presently support. It is also free and freely available.

Hi Zapme1, dgmele,
I would have no idea what to do with a registry editor. Whilst Sprite backup is automated and the exe just reinstalls everything for me, I would be quite lost with a registry editor.    I have been using PHM power tools for a while so I'm aware of the tool but...........

I say to myself, I need to learn to skin as well but I can barely find the time to do anything else. Studying for degrees, babies in the house, etc.
Only hobby is TP and the way it automates most of my info needs for the day.

Thanks anyway! I do hope uk_skinner or someone else can help us with a backup and/or import/export settings function on TP as I do like trying out new soft and most of them mess up your system somehow.

Hi Zapme1, dgmele,

Well Abram, that's not very difficult, as you only have to execute
the registry-editor, go to a special-key (with an explorer-lookalike),
select the key and export it to a file with the ending .reg.

After done that, you have a file with all settings of TodayPlus, that
you can save anywhere and restore after a hardreset and installing
TodayPlus.

QuoteI do hope uk_skinner or someone else can help us with a backup and/or import/export settings function on TP as I do like trying out new soft and most of them mess up your system somehow.

That would indeed be the simplest solution for us all

Hi Broesel,
What info exactly would be in these keys? Would it contain city/weather info, rss, etc, those things that are usually a pain to set up after a hard reset? Also would the special key for TP be instantly recognisable? Or what should I look for?

Many thanks, I just might be brave enough to try it.

Yes, everything you setup in config.exe is stored in a couple of keys
under HKCU/Software/SRSSoft/TodayPlus and if you export the whole
key, everything can be stored in that key again.

Abram:

Here is a short how to with the tascal-regedit:

Go to
HKEY_Current_USER\Software\SRSSoft\TodayPlus

and mark the TodayPlus (Screenshot 1)

Click on File--> Export Registry (Screenshot 2)

The Key Should be marked now (you can't see the whole path but should
be o.k., if you marked it in the scren before (Screenshot 3)

Click on ok and select a name for the file (with type *.reg)
once more ok ant that's it. The file is stored and you can backup it
where you want.

To restore it, in the mainscreen of the registry-editor click
file-->Import Registry and choose the file you saved before.

That' s it, your configuration is restored.

Hi Everyone,

Got my wish for TV Listings on the ppc !!   Right now this is a FREE app, and pretty cool, I must say !!  :D

This app is independant from TP, but I believe I've found a way to also import the TV Listings into my skin...  I'm working on it !!!

For now, you can get the info on this app Here ! (http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=81283)

Like I said, it is FREE, and takes a little setup and registration, but works great !!   If anyone needs help, let me know !!

Enjoy !!!!!  (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/more/bigs/c005.gif)

Ooh Me! Ooh Me!  I want a VGA version.  I just don't have time to wipe my...   nose lately.     Get your mind outta the gutter.  Let me know if I can help but as I said, I'm extremely busy these past few weeks.  Hopefully, after my college son returns home and starts supporting himself, life will settle back down and I can start a new skin idea that I've been toying with.  We shall see..
