NOTE
if you intend to use any of these weather icons in your skin, you should probably covert the .bmps to .gifs or .pngs as these will take up less space on the ppc.
I liked kooKyGuY's small2 weather icons, but wanted transparent backgrounds. So I modified his weather icon set to make the daytime icons transparent.
The ZIP...
I also fixed a few images in astro's Weather Network to make them completely transparent (eliminate "pink" edges).
Could somebody post the transparent BBC weather icons?
Much appreciated :)
Managed to alter the transparent colour on my skin
Works pretty well except for a slight grey outline
Off Topic:
SRS, can you link me to where you got that sweet windows logo in the first pic.
Thanks
for the bbc icons to be transparent you just have to change the transparent color in the skin to match the background.
Cratos,
I just took the picture that astro posted in the Brighthand thread, so I dont have that theme. You could try to email or pm him.
Thanks to Snagged 3d for his great 3D Icons

I think the background color is "153,153,204".
Thanks for the props dhpss, and to srs for including them in the default skin. Never thought I'd see the "smoke" icon come up, but all of LA is now covered in a thick blanket of it from the fires...some friends of mine had to be evacuated out of Simi Valley... :(
I wanted to share my modified weather.com icon for code 39 (AM / PM showers) which is more like the one on the website. I prefer it to the one we previously had, which looks just like all-day showers.
From Intellicast.com (http://www.intellicast.com/Help/SkyCodes).
From World Weather Information Service (http://www.worldweather.org/wx_icon.htm).
Nice find astro, thanks for sharing :)

Hello Astro, thanks for those great weathericons but I have one question.
When the weather code is: showers, I see the icon of windy, so I looked on the website of intellicast, and I see that showers will result in an icon with a cloud an some rain. But on my screen, it shows the icon of Windy. Is this normal?
Maybe it's normal but it's just a question
Did some work in the Weather Underground icons:

Hi
How do I make the background transparent for the BBC Icons - the ones posted that are *.bmp.
Is this possible with *.bmp files or do they need to be *.png files. Oo this skinning is addictive!

The easiest way is to change this line in your skin:
color,transparent,
255_0_255This is usually somewher near the top of the skin. If you change the bolded area to this I think it will work:
color,transparent,153_153_204
You can use .bmp or .png. It is up to you. The only difference is that .png is a smaller file size. Just make sure that in your skin you tell the skin what file type to use. Example:
options,weathericondir,Weather Icons\Washington Post,
png
Yahoo! Weather icons...nice and simple

Gifs work, i'v tried it.
dhpss,
Yes, gif will work. In your skin file, change your skin ref. to
options,weathericondir,Weather Icons\yahoo-weather,gif[/code]
Could we use animated gif's in the next versions?
That should be great, animated weather images etc.

I was under the impression that animated gifs were not supported by PPC2002/WM2003, rather than it being something that srs can add to TodayPlus.
Pocket IE does not support animated .gif but the OS itself does. There are plenty of other applications for Pocket PCs that will show them.

Wow, Great find! I like those animated gif. Hopefully TD+ will support it! :D
I have seen people make the icons transparent (with a pink background). Could you let me know how to do it (with freeware if possible).
Thx!

I just use M$ paint.
I have got the forecasttext file attached. Is it the content wrongly defined?
Hi
I followed the advice earlier in this thread about changing the colour from 255_0_255 to color,transparent,153_153_204 but it made the backgrounds go pink. Should the transparent colour be something else?
Martin
It doesn't sound like the 153_153_204 is the exact RGB color of your icon background.
In order for 153_153_204 to be transparent, it needs to listed in your skin file and be the exact RGB color of the pink in your icons. Anti-aliased images are not good to use, since the blend of the colors around the border of the images doesn't let you completely hide the pink. It needs to be a hard stop between the icon's edge and the transparent color.
Hi,
I've edited the BBC icons to have the following:
1. Magenta background for easier transparancy.
2. Both white and black clouds depending on weather severity.
3. Modified windy modifier (lines to right of cloud).
4. Added 45,46,47.
5. Modifed number of water droplets/rays to give more variation.
It works best on a mid blue background.
Hope you like them.

I personally love these, but can we use them?
I mean, I can't track the source so I have been taking screenshots the last few days...
Also, do we have a list of a description what each of the 44 images is?
If more people like it I could update this icon pack once in a while :)

Very nice.
If you can collect enough different ones, it should be relatively easy to create a skin around them.
So far I got:
- clear day
- 10% clouds over day
- 20% clouds over day
- 30% clouds over day
- 40% clouds over day
- 50% clouds over day
- 60% clouds over day
- 70% clouds over day
- 80% clouds over day
- 100% clouds over day (sun not visible)
- rain
- little rain
- rain + snow
- fog
- clear night
- 10% clouds over night
- 30% clouds over night
- 40% clouds over night
- 60% clouds over night
- 80% clouds over night
- 90% clouds over night
- 100% clouds over night (moon not visible)
- Weather Station out of order ( )
They're somewhat accurate and you always know how much clouds there are :D
If I upload them now all, is there someone who can make a pack of it?
After a few days I got like 40 pictures now, should be enough I think... let me know and I happily upload them :)

I already looked into that and they don't compare :(
There are 44 pictures and heck hell I know how many descriptions :(
Quote from: WoefertjeAlso, do we have a list of a description what each of the 44 images is?
Refer to the Weather ID Icon list, which is part of the Skin Reference documentation. Oh, and there are 47 total image IDs as used by Weather.com.
http://dark-mojo.com/todayplus/download.php?id=443
Out of the 44(or 47) I got 27 images ready, as soon as we got some wind/blizzards over here I can pretty much complete it :)
I found out there are no images for wind on that site, are these pictures I made myself acceptable?;

Hey ho, where are the files from the first page? Only can read text but there no icons for download or example screens.

They were developed by WillyG from Norway to the program PocketWeather.

the friendly permission from WillyG :D i'll give them to you too.

Ooops, sorry Motormuis, didn't remember that they were the same icons  , well I'm getting older .... :(
Broesel
No hard feelings, that wasn't my intension.
I just thought it's funny.... old man....
@All,
Yust for your information.
The weather-id-list we commonly use for our TodayPlus weatherpics/weatherpicnumbers is no longuer actual. Some/several numbers from the forecast URL's don't match the pics we used till now. While working with uk_skinner and Broesel in another thread, we noticed this. I did some investigation and found this new order: Weather-ID-list. I thank Broesel for helping me.
If you see some improvements, please let me know!
You can find it all here (http://forums.jhollin1138.com/viewtopic.php?t=1799):
• several icons to download for VGA and QVGA pocketpc's
• comparison of the icons
• weather ID list
