Today Plus... I know I'm a little late....

I actually just obtained a copy of Today Plus ver 12 and fix, when I purchased Everything Today skin.  I know I am a bit late to post as a beta tester for it to make any difference, but in the hopes that srs actually does return and read this I will post my findings, and opinions. And I DO hope he returns and continues this project!  I'd use TP even if I had to pay for it!

First of all, I have to say that TP is EXCELLENT!  It incorporates everything that one would want on their today screen in one plugin!  I also love the fact that it's highly customizable, and some great skins can be made (take a look at Everything Today!)

I did a comparison using several today plugins like Weather Today, and a freebie plugin that shows system info, and CLaunch, and a few others.  I noticed that TP used about half the memory than using all those other plugins, plus it has more to offer!  For example I didn't have a plug in that showed rss news feeds!

Some buggy things I noticed were:

I could not get most rss feeds to work properly.  TP would load the headlines, but when the headlines were tapped, it would be blank... the ONLY rss feeds I can get to work are the Yahoo default ones, which sadly do not have any Canadian feeds (I am Canadian)  World news is fine though... but most of the feeds that I CAN get to work are very Americanized.  I don't know if this is a TP prob or maybe just the format of some of the rss feeds???

Keep in mind I am using the Everything Today skin and I dont know if this is part of the skin or the actual prog, but the built in pic viewer will ONLY load pics in the TP images directory.  Like I said this might be the skin itself.  I'd like to see it load pics from a specified dir.  

My Plugins screen in the config is blank.  I don't know if its like this because I don't have any, or if this option is currently unusable at all.  


Thats about it for now... if I notice more I'll post it.  Like I said I know I am a bit late... I only found out about this amazing prog recently.  I read the whole saga about the expiration date etc, and I certainly hope srs did not abandon the project for good.  And if he did,... I would hope that he'd at least release the most recent version as freeware (or even as a paid version!) without expiry date.  I'd hate to think that such a good prog would go to waste.

 Welcome to TP forum.  We all hope one day srs will return.

 I believe we have a lot of ideas and try to help each other in many ways.  But I would like to remind you that the skin you used (Everything Today) is a commercial one.  If you have any question regarding this skin, I would suggest you ask help from this particular skinner.  Because, most of users here don't have it and can not help you in any way.  You can get more information from here: http://www.jhollin1138.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=9406#9406

 Please feel free to explore any skin published here for free and if you do need any help in these skins, most of the authors are here to answer your questions.

Hmmm I wasn't really asking for help with the skin...  I was just pointing out some bugs I noticed, and stated that I didn't know if it was the skin causing the prob or TodayPlus.  

Thanks for pointing me to the other skins though I may try a few...

 My apologize to let you feeling in that way.  You are certainly welcome to share your thoughts about the TP and what might can be improved.  Since you mentioned the skin you are using is a commercial one and some of the problems,indeed, were caused by the codes in the skin.  That is the reason, oftenly, users were asked to upload the skin here for troubleshotting.  More importantly,except the official announcement made by jhollin1138, everything I posted here were my personal statements.

Unfortunately, TodayPlus isn't the best choice for a RSS feed reader.  The problem is it doesn't support XML and processes everything in the feed as "just text," see this thread for the problem I had with my feed.  Can you post the url for the feeds you were having problems with?

Now as far as the Everything Today skin.  As uk_skinner and the post that he has linked to states, this forum is not to be used for problems associated directly with the skin.  Please ask Corbcut (aka LordTwisted) for help with issues with his skin elsewhere.  You can however, ask general question about TodayPlus assuming the question you are asking can be applied to any skin.  For example "How do I enter a RSS feed into the config application?

I tried cbc.ca and ctv.ca news feeds.... and a fwe other canadian ones I tried to find.  So far I can only get the Yahoo ones to work.  Which is fine...  really it's just something to keep me busy when I am bored in between tasks at work or something lol!  

Again... I wasn't asking for help or asking questions... I just posted what I found... as I said I didn't know if all were a skin prob or a tp prob, so I posted them.  Obviously the rss pob IS a tp prob.  And the plugin page in my TP config not showing anything at all but a blank screen is obviously a TP prob.  The pic viewer thingy was the only one I was not sure of.  

I appreciate the offers for help but I don't really need any.  I got tp working how I like it.    Though I may try out some of the other skins on here.  


One more bug I noticed:  (no matter which skin I use)  My free memory bounces around, as much as a 4 meg difference, with no programs loaded other than wisbar advance and TP.  I'm assuming the RSS data would be different sizes each day, but I cant see it being by that much.  When my mem drops by that much the only way to reclaim it seems to be a reset.  Is this a mem leak prob? And is it a known prob in TP?
