Title: Guest partnership?
Post by: paqque on January 07, 2004, 12:39:35 AM
I assume the answer to this is no, but desparation is forcing me to get a confirmation:

I'll be traveling a bit and won't have access to a personal PC (is that redundant?), instead using a variety of corporate laptops.

Is there any way to establish a TodayPlus sync relationship *without* an ActiveSync PIM partnership connection?

I will have an ActiveSync connection but only in Guest mode, allowing only backup/restore, file transfers, and application installations.

:?:  Is there any way that TodayPlus can function with a 'Guest' PDA?

If the PDA has wireless could you go that route?

OR

I don't have Wi-Fi, but the internet cnxn is an idea.  How would I go about connect to TodayPlus via a passthru?

I use the recombinant skin and by hitting the time does a manual  refresh... I'm using wifi here @ home, I suspect passthru would work the same?

I use the guest mode at work to sync TD+ and it works without any problems.

Hitting the manual refresh button (using default slider.txt) doesn't seem to work.

My agenda, storage card, and other onboard items are updating, but not the weather, sunrise/sunset, or I suspect, the rss feeds.

(For example, city1.txt reports this.swLastUp = "01/02/2004 11:55:00".)

Help!

Question, the weather will update in the amount of time you have it set for. ex: my weather is set to update when syncing every 60 minutes. What did you set yours for?

It is set to 30 mins, but I have tried it at 1 mins as well.

Use file explorer and check in the TODAYPLUS----BUFFER file to see if there is any information there.

My Buffer directory has:
city1.txt (dated 1/2/04, my last sync)
city1.txt.time (dated 1/2/04, my last sync)
rss1.txt (dated 12/18/04, never got around to copying my rss feeds from V10!)
rss1.txt.time (dated 12/18/04)

[EDIT]  Just thought about this: I am running Norton Internet Security on the partnered desktop, although I haven't noticed any blocking...Never mind - disabled NIS and no impact.

When you look at the buffer it should have the following:

city1  then the date then size of file ex: city1 1/8/04 74B
city1.txt then the date then size of file ex: city1.txt 1/8/04 22B

rss1 then the date then the size of file ex: rss1 1/8/04 6.30K
rss1.txt then the date then the size of file ex: rss1.txt 1/8/04 22B

That is something like you should see. If you see files with 0 bites of information you don't have a download.

It could be that ActiveSync isn't allowing the download with a guest partnership. Wi-Fi mite be the only way.

I assume you're at work. If so, make sure your work settings in WM2003 (or PPC 2002) show your connection does see the Internet:
