Title: Got a code not known error, Fiday - 151
Post by: DudeZXT on January 25, 2004, 02:15:44 PM
The daytime forecast was scattered flurries and the night forecast was the error.

Is there a new version of the forecasttext.txt file somewhere???
Thanks!

Hi

I know this doesn't directly answer the question - but take a look at this (short) thread.

As you'll see, the best way to find out what a missing code means, is to be able to go to the msnbc site as soon as the code appears in TP....

Today I checked the local weather and got a unknown code 99, checked on msnbc and weather.com and it showed Snow Showers Late, but that is the same code as 107. Which is correct?

Update Code 99 is Snow Showers Late , I deleted my buffer and removed code 99 from my weather.txt file and did a sync. Code 99 showed again, went to weather.com and MSNBC and it said Snow Showers Late.

Sorry, there are a few things I don't follow. First, what is "weather.txt"? I don't have any file by that name. Do you mean "forecasttxt.txt"? Second, if you do mean forecasttext.txt, then I don't understand why you removed code 99. If you got an "unknown code 99", then you should have entered it, not removed it. Third, I just checked my own file, and I don't have anything in there for code 99. If you have it (which you must have, since you removed it), maybe you have a more recent file than I do. Finally, I'd have tried to help a bit more by reproducing the problem, but you didn't say where you live in NJ, and without the city / ZIP info, I can't easily do so.

Ok Scotty there never was a code 99 in the txt file, I entered 99 after I went to weather.com and MSNBC weather to check what the forecast was. I removed the code I added to do a final test to see if 99 would show up again to verify the code 99 was indeed what I entered was correct. So i feel now that code 99 is correct.

P.S, 08824 is the zip entered.

Another code this morning for Tuesday night in zip code 08824. Unknown code 182, checked weather channel, MSNBC, and it is Wintry Mix to Snow/Wind.

Another code for Wed Morning zip 08824, 181 AM Snow / Wind

For those interested there is a free download from the Weather Channel, which will give you weather and news on you PC. I use it often to check weather codes. Nice and small footprint. Give it a try.

Can this topic be made sticky?
Can everyone post the codes here whenever they find a new one?
This could lead to a much better forecasttext.txt file!

By searching this forum I've found:

99   Snow Showers Late
122  Foggy
134  Rain/Snow Showers Early
161  Fog AM/Mostly Cloudy PM
181  Snow AM/Wind
182  Wintry Mix to Snow/Wind
247  Heavy Snow/Wind

What about any others?

Thanks for the info, joelw135. By the way, I have a suggestion. In a previous post you said that code 107 seemed to be the same as code 99. Maybe you've already done this, but you could delete code 107 from forecasttext.txt, then see if an "unknown code" pops up - and if so, you could track it down....

I'd do it myself, but I don't usually encounter these snow / wind / generally awful weather codes, because it's always sunny here at the left edge....

At your request, I have created a new sticky called "Weather Codes".

Thanks fishboy

Nice to see some positive input from everyone eh?  :D I am getting more than a little tired of all of the negativity around these fora of late (as, I know, are you, joelw135, MadTxn, and various others).

Yes, I too wish the endless complaining, debating, etc. about expirations and feature creep would cease, and people would just accept the software for what it is, how it is deployed, and support SRS's in his efforts, as was done in the past (or not accept, and move on).

Just my opinion (not trying to spur further debates).
