Title: I want to pay for a 12-month TodayPlus
Post by: epsilonx on January 30, 2004, 01:15:24 PM
There's a hot and heavy thread here about TodayPlus expiring.  I don't have a problem with it expiring, but folks need to be told.  With the last two versions, no one was told.  Sure, it's beta software, but if you don't want to alienate your beta folks, communicate.

But how about this?  I'd like to pay for a version of TodayPlus (say, 0.12.0) that lasts for 12 months.  Today, srs isn't making any money from sales of TodayPlus because it's in beta.  Well, how about $2-5US for a 12-month version?  Who says you can't charge for beta software?

No support has to be offered, as the support on this forum is great.  This would encourage skinners to develop excellent interfaces, and give paying folks the assurance that their interface will continue to work the way it does today, for a year.

And to all those posters who shout, "IT'S BETA SOFTWARE, DON'T USE IT IN PRODUCTION" I must say, as technically-aware folks (most of us, I'd imagine) we can successfully use this software in a production environment, at least for ourselves, if we know it's going to work as we have it working today, for a set period of time.

I don't have any problems with my 0.11.0 version, unless I mess up the skin file myself.  Therefore I have no problems running it in my "production" environment; it's stable.  I just find it very annoying that the software dies on a certain date, and this is not communicated at all.  What's the production version going to do?  The same thing or worse?

Anyway, I'm offering a possible solution.  The software is good enough to pay for, and although I know that the final version will probably sell for a lot more than a few bucks, I'd be willing to pay for a beta version that doesn't expire for 12 months.  Any other takers?

I think that srs wants to decide if this software must become shareware. There are lots of people who wants to donate some money... but if srs is not active on this forum... it's going to be difficult...

I hate to be a pessimist, but unless srs comes back to see all the posts and PM's members sent, it will all be in-vain. He hasn't been in here since January 7th.  I my self am hoping he returns soon, he is missed.
