TodayPlus Boards v2

If TodayPlus does indeed die, I will return to many of the Today plug-ins I was running before I switched completely to TodayPlus.  I thought it might be helpful for members to post what plug-ins they will be using if TodayPlus does die.

Tom Gigears' BatMemTime (http://www.geocities.com/tomgigear77/Software.html) (freeware: battery, memory and storage card information plug-in)

Although nothing will replace the flexibility of TodayPlus, we still need to use our PPCs.  Hopefully TodayPlus doesn't die and this thread becomes useless. *crosses fingers*

Well, my config was :
- Uptime (freeware)
- Scarybear QuickAgenda (bought it, love it)
- Scarybear QuickTasks (bought it, love it)
- OmegaOne Battery Pack (bought it, not bad, bit slow sometimes)
- Journal Bar (bought it, had ocasional problems with sincronization)

I'm hopin' it doesn't come to that, but if it does, I recall I enjoyed that config and it suited my needs just fine, so I guess it wouldn't be that bad.

Anyway, NOTHING can replace the power and flexibility of TP.

Any freeware that could replace the Weather and the World Time?

Don't really want to think of running anything else  :cry:, but I would probably go back to my boring today screen consisting of:

- cLaunch (freeware tabbed launcher)

- tAgenda (freeware agenda/tasks display)
OR
- Calendar+ (freeware agenda display)
- TaskPlus (freeware tasks display

Probably dashboard, WA, and Journal Bar. Juni has some wicked skins for dashboard and WA. But I sincerely hope that it doesn't come to this.

I've gone back to this set up, in the following order.

TodayCAL by Robomagic (1 month calendar w/today's date)

WorldMate by mobimate (shows time and weather w/3 day forecast)

Calendar+ (I display next 2 upcoming appointments)

QuickTasks 2.5 by Scarybear Software (displays task list)

Probably back to:

My Calendar
Launcher

Will continue to use:

WisBar Adv
tAgenda

Still need a replacement weather section!

Well I'll go back to using:
tagenda v1.1 (Agenda/tasks)
claunch v12.03 (instead of tdlaunch - tabbed launcher)
batmemtime v3.3.7 (battery/storage/memory meters)

Things which I have started using with TP such as weather and RSS feeds will need to be replaced.

The only weather replacements I have found are
pktweather (free uses flash)
ADBWeather 2002  (shareware)

OR

OnlineWeather.com (via AvantGo)

For RRS:
PocketFeed

I'm just going to pout a lot and remove all the plugins from my Today screen, leaving an unsullied picture of my family, relying upon reminders for my tasks/appointments, PHM TrayLaunch on the bottom bar for a launcher and icbar (or possible WA) for bat/mem meter and other functions on the top bar (including a link to HandyMenu).

So, I'll miss out on the weather and RSS information, but I'll have managed to replace one Today plugin with... none!

- Omegaone Journal Bar.
- Omegaone Program Bar.
- Omegaone Battery Bar.
- JGUI |MYCalendar.
- Rhinostats CPUmonitor.
- Uptime Meter.
- Stocksandweathertoday.


All this to replace 1 plug-in  :shock:   And still i don't have all my functionality back  :?

Optional Today plug-in weather apps have already been mentioned, but another alternative is to subscribe (for free!) to infuzer.com.  Text-based weather forecasts for selected locations are received as app't items to Outlook which then get sync'd to your PDA agenda info.  If you have an agenda/calendar today screen plug-in you then get daily weather updates via schedule items.

Not pretty, but very functional, and a space saver.  I've used the same for World Cup soccer, er, football, schedules.

I've used a lot of different apps prior to TodayPlus, but all seem to have their limitations. Here are my thoughts:

Snoopsoft Dashboard - App is too big. Problems with ActiveSync.
Omegaone Journal Bar - Has NO Central American weather. Wonder why?
JGUI MoreTodays - Flakey screen refreshes.
Stocksandweathertoday - A real screen hog; unattractive look.
Worldmate SE - Too expensive. Foreign weather limited to capital cities.

I will probably switch to tdLaunch and PIToday (both excellent programs), but I really would like to find a weather program with the cities that TodayPlus has, plus the ability to limit the Today screen size until I want to check the weather.

For my skinning and virtual page needs, I already have PPX.  I run T+ on PPX.  I guess I would have to run PocketFeed to get my RSS, but I do not have a suitable replacement for weather (by suitable, I mean in my price range and looking as great as Today+ Weather).  I really get aggravated with Infuzer's placing stuff in my calendar two, three and four times a day (plus I really love eye candy).  Maybe ADB Weather.

Worldmate by Mobimate works great.  It is $24.95 and it displays 3 the time in 3 cities and a 3 day forecast on the today screen.  Today CAL by Robomagic is another great app that shows an entire month.

I've found an interesting little launcher plugin. It sits at the bottom of your screen and provides a dozen launch buttons.

Dont know if you guys noticed the batch program in the other thread or not. But this program will change your date to 2003, restart your pda, then change your date back to 2004. This allows TodayPlus to work indefinitly. You just have to restart with that batch program instead of whatever else you were using.

I use PPX and tp+ as a plug-in with a modified LT skin(attached).  It eliminates wisbar as you can customize the startbar,desktop and 3 more virtual layers with ppx.  tip:I found it easier to leave the tp+ skin as is and just adjust the positioning when you configure your todayplus as a plugin.   I have journal bar and calander plus but it's class "B" compared to TodayPlus.  I have been mad at the thought of this excellent program ending and have been following threads on a freeware project.  

I have a website I'm not using at the moment and can offer it for development if this board dies.  I haven't used phpbb, but have used yabb.  I don't know much about anything but usually can learn enough to do the job.  I've obtained enough software to learn to develop for ppc and have been cramming.  I've already started to add sample things to the today screen and will hopefully soon have the weather and rss feeds show up as an item, the other items are pretty much built in (poom=pocket outlook) and just have to be manipulated.

I'm having trouble with my .dll, but just learning.  I've been comparing code from tp+ and journal bar and calandar to get a clue.    It looks like tp+ was importing functions from 7 or 8 modules and had 6 objects so I'll have to check on what they do.  It would be easier to crack this program if it had error messages when it tried to load expired.  I saw this in the code but seems to be a dead end and just formats time, so much for cracking and time to build...

Writing a Custom Today Screen Item
A custom Today screen item is simply a DLL that implements a specific interface and is registered in such a way that the Today screen can find it.
Each DLL must export one required and one optional function at specific ordinals. InitializeCustomItem (ordinal 240) is required for all Today screen items. The InitializeCustomItem function creates the child window to display the data.......

I just love this program and will resort to building my own if I have to, maybe half as good...wait a minute that's journal bar.  I have to do better than that.  It may be up for sell according to some threads and if it does I might buy it, then again I'm having fun, and think the emulator for PPC2003 is cool.  I started using it to see how skins look and it maps the storage card to any folder on your hard drive, A 40gig storage cards will hold alot of skins.  If nothing else, I'm sure I've learned something about ppc programing and not just loseing sleep.  If any one wants any more info., just let me know.
