Post by: grayme on November 04, 2004, 08:28:12 AM
Is it possible to have animated gifs as weather icons, they would look lovely.  :D

I have been trying to search a solution for that but can not get one, at least not within TP.    :(

uk_skinner - Just a thought. Some skins (Hammerskin for example) have a ticker display for the RSS and others have a battery/memory display that keeps switching automatically. My understanding is that the animated icons are just graphic files that keep switching the image to give the illusion of animation. What about a region with a series of identical pages, each with a slightly different graphic image, that switch every x amount of time.? If x was small enough this would give the illusion of an animated icon. The only problem with this is that I think that T+ only allows an update every minute. If so this is too slow for an animated effect.

I know you can update a region as quickly as every 10 secs.  I'm not sure about anything less than that.

ya1950:  You were right.  I did try this already month ago.  It was too slow (I used 1 sec) to have animated effect in Hammerskin.  Right now, I used this approach to "rotate" weather icons.

Edit:  I should make it clearer.  I did try to see I can refresh the weather region in Hammerskin every second.  For some reason, it only can do as faster as 6 seconds.  That was too slow to have animated effects.  But I have not try other skin.

Grayme,

It's a pity that no-one knows a way to do this. Some times ago I've made some animated weather gifs, but it seems they aren't to use in TodayPlus.

Timmy

It would set the screen off lovely having lots of nice animated icons, think of the possibilities, not just weather icons....

Srs, please come back!  :D
