Title: Animated gifs
Post by: Timmy on December 10, 2004, 05:06:33 AM
@All,

Several people told me: TodayPlus can't use animated gifs. But there are some clever guys walking around on this board. Maybe, one of them gets a brainwave...

I've made a start in another project with animated weather pics. You can find the examples here:

Title: Animated Weather - It works!!!! at a 3 second frame rate
Post by: tree99 on December 11, 2004, 08:55:08 AM
T+ does not support animated images.  I have tried a few different ones.

The way I got this to work was to extract some animated gifs into their separate frames, then I put all the frame one images in a folder named "1", frame two images in folder named "2"...etc.  I did this for frames 0-4.

Then I added some code that steps a variable and changes the weather icon directory according to the variable.

I tested this with a small skin and it worked.  Then I pasted it into region 1 of jrhollin's modified slider
added the initvar,var27,0 in the beginning and changed region one from updating at 60 seconds to 1 second, but it didn't animate that fast.  More like 3 seconds, a bit slow, but the best T+ will do.

My animated collection is limited, I did not have every weather condition as an animated file.  I got them from the web somewhere a few months ago when I first wanted to have animated weather icons.  It didn't work then and everyone in the forum said it couldn't work, so I gave up.  Well it was gnawing at me while I tried other ideas.  Now I have a better understanding how T+ plus works, so I came up with this solution.  I can't post the animated icons split into folders/frames since I am sure they are copyrighted.  Besides, it is not a full set, just enough to prove my theory.

I wish there was a city whose forecast was more diverse, that would have been cool to see the many different animations.

If someone out there has a full set of animated icons I would love to make a full set split to folder/frame for T+.  I need some help with batch renaming of files since I did it by hand.  I was up all night (literally) and now I need to go to bed.

I believe UK_Skinner also tried to do this, and about 3 sec was about the fastest he was able to get also !   :(

That was right.. Especially for a much complicated skin, like Hammerskin.  It will take longer to load each frame.  It will look like "slow motion".

Tree99,

Thank you for let us know what you've tried!!! It could be the beginning of more...

There were more problems, of which almost everybody thought that there was no way out. Untill someone was getting the right insight. Perseverance pays!

And, to speak with ZapMe1's motto: "The most knowledgable person in the world is not the one who possesses the most knowledge, but the one who surrounds themselves with the greatest number of knowledgable people"

Hey... hush...  What do I hear?!? It's a soft sound, coming from the other side of the ocean... Do I hear Uk-skinner's brains working?!? Or, are it the brains of someone else??? Rotlaus, perhaps?!?

You were right and did hear my head (not brain) is making noise,  (I don't know that is a good sign or not).  The idea is cooking but it is still too early to tell. :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:

done- I hope that was enough.  Let me know.

I don't remember who was working on it (I think Witchel) but someone was writing code for a photo album.  They could do a slideshow, 3 secs might actually be too fast.  The code there would only have to switch image files not folders.

this works because region 1 has a refresh setting of 1.  Region 1 has the code updateregions,2,3.   Region 3 is where the weather is.  I am now trying this: I duplicate the code in another region that  also refreshes at 1 sec and updates region 3.  The theory is this might cut in half the update time of region 3.  I haven't gotten it to work exactly.  It is now just erasing region 3 instead of updating it.  But the erase seems sooner than 3 secs.   I'll post when I figure out what is going on.

tree99:  Good try.  Can you check how fast the TP refresh even you set for 1 sec?

I tried an experiment in my new skin, on a page that had very little on it..  I set the refresh at 1 sec,  and it refreshes at about 1-2 sec, but to switch pages is difficult..  Does not want to switch while refreshing !!

Uk
I don't understand your question.  Something wrong in the translation I think.
I have the refresh set to be 1sec in region 1.  I have duplicated region 1 and called it region 30 this seems to just erase the weather.

I have to call it quits for the rest of the day, I need to go help my brother build his house.

Just to request again.  Does anyone have a full set of animated weather icons?  I had only about 30.  I would love to get this working with a full set.

The question will be fatser enough to generate "animated" effect?  I have no experience in making animated gif.

Forget the thing, this doesn't work. To really get an animated Gif must the exchange be 0.25 seconds and faster. For this TD+ is too slow. It would primarily use up resources. The only possibility is, that SRS returns and installs this function in the program.

I just don't see him as coming back, I get the feeling it's all too bitter for that... :(
