Here is a gift for TP skinner.
But first thing first.
Warning: Please backup your PPC. I was told by Santa that he will not hold any responsibility for any thing.
This is a free program (ImageViewer, "IMV" for short) and I have the source codes. It was designed to be used within TP althought there are still some rooms for improvement (see known issue at below).
Instruction for Installation:
1) Unzip the file and you should find several Cab file in the folder, copy the one you need to your device. I used ARMV4 for iPAQ4355 and hx4705. If you don't know which one you should use, you can either try them all or post your question here.
2) Tap the Cab file on the device, it will install a folder named "ImageViewer" under /Program Files/
3) Edit: As for now, the ImageViewer folder only and only can be put "/Program Files". I will try to resolve the issue asap.
4) Open the folder, you should find a file named "config.imv". Use Resco File Explorer (or others) to associate this file with "ImageViewer.exe". You only need to perform this one time unless later you move the IMV.exe to other space. For those do not have the right tool to do it, perhaps later one can post the registry file here, then you can just import that into your device. This step is very important because it tells your device to open .imv file with IMV.exe
5) Tap the config.imv and you should see a default image is displayed in a window with the scroll bars.
6) Congratulations, right now the IMV.exe is ready.
ImageViewer_25Dec04 (http://todayplus.jhollin1138.com/files/uk_skinner/ImageViewer_25Dec04.zip)
imvclose02 (http://todayplus.jhollin1138.com/files/uk_skinner/imvclose02.zip)
imvWinControl02 (http://todayplus.jhollin1138.com/files/uk_skinner/imvWinControl02.zip)
Let me go more details of what IMV.exe does and how can it be used within TP.
1) The IMV.exe was designed to display a particular image in a window that its size and position can be specified through a text-based file (.imv).
2) A basic Zoom in/out, window fit and "drag-and-move" function also included. There are 4 icons at the bottom of task bar: Zoom-in, Zoom-out, Fit and Drag.
If you copy the config.imv file onto you PC and rename the extension to .txt, you can open it in Notepad. There are 4 lines in it.
\program files\ImageViewer\default.bmp
0,150,240,120
1
20
1: The whole file pathway of image you wish to display.
2: (x,y,width, height) of the window. Please note the "y" position of window needs to be start all the way up, including the top task bar (usually is 26 for QVGA and 52 for VGA).
3: Scroll bar on/off, 1:"on" and 0:"off"
4: The height of blue title bar. If you don't want it, you can set as "0", but you should find out, in fact, you can drag the whole window around if you tap-and-hold the blue bar.
So, you can edit anyway you wish, save as .txt file and just rename the extension back to ".imv" before you copy it back to device. The name of file can be anything you wish, such as 1.imv, myimge.imv....
Please see a screenshot below. In this case, the .IMV open the radar image within TP. To close it just tap the "ok" at upper-right corner on your device.
THis is a really nice App. I'm looking forward to showing some really NICE maps.. yeah, that's it! Maps.
Known Issue:
1) IMV works very well in QVGA device, however there is an "issue" when it is in VGA device. The 4 icons are "shrink" at the bottom of task bar. Although they are still functional, if you can tap at the right positions. But it seemed to be no problem for Toshiba VGA, WM2003FE.
2) The image was not opened as its original resolution. So you might need to do fit first then zoom in/out.
3) The IMV needs to be close in order to open the next one. At this moment, I might have a small exe that you can trigger within the TP to close it. If this work out then this can be skinned as a button to close it. Once it is tested, I will post here.
Wichtel just informed me there might be a problem for file association in German OS, since it is "Programme" in the device.
I did some tests and confirm that there is a bug. If you perform file assoication to other storgae space, the registry key was altered back to "/Program Files" by program.
So please put the ImageViewer folder in /Program Files for now. If you don't have one, create one. I will try to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thanks.

Don't work either :wall: . Perhaps another one have more luck on the German OS

That is the same value I have in my device. Here is suggestion. Remove the program from your device and delet following registry, then reinstall again.

UK_skinner,
I've tested ImageViewer.exe some times. In my humble opinion: a nice feature!!! Thanks!
PLUS:
• No errors, so far!!!
• It's always at the top of the screen. Nice feature!
• You can move ImageViewer to every place on the screen.
• The scrollbar can disappear! I like that!
• I like the config file!!!!! Gives many possibilities!!!
MIN:
• The drag button remains white. I prefer white for on, and grey for off.
Greetings,
Timmy
Im running it on Dell X30 w/WMSE and the buttons are shrunk as well ( Im not complaining just notifying ), its a gift. Thank you to santa and all his helpers!

Thanks. So, then it is WM2003SE problem not VGA. Right now, sort of make sense. I know it work with Toshiba WM2003FE VGA.
Good to know..THanks again hollywood.
UK_skinner,
Nice feature, your ImageViewer!!! I've descoverd that for 'x' can be use negative numbers, and for 'y': numbers wider then the screen. In this way you can almost do everything with a picture you want, and center horizontal to your wishes!
I'm working on implementing your gift in my own skin, and I have some questions for you:
Question 1:
I want add new small buds. Every bud has his own picture. When clicking on a bud, I want to do two things with one click:
- first imvclose02.exe
- then the ImageViewer pic of my wishes.
Is this possible in TodayPlus?!?
Question 2:
When ImageViewer is opened, can the program automatic be opened in the 'fit to screen' modus? Would be nice for the things I'm planning...
Question 3:
When I open ImageViewer, the demensions are not right, as you can see in the attachement. First I have to click the 'fit to screen' button. Has this something to do with my device, or is something wrong in the program?
Timmy
Update:
I have put an updated one "ImageViewer_25Dec04" at the 1st post.
1) The image will be opened with its original resolution.
2) You can open the next imv file without quit the program first. The image will be refeshed.
3) In this version, a new small exe "IMVStart.exe" in the folder. At beginning, the "ImageViewer" folder will be installed under /Program Files/. This time you can move it to your favor place. You should only need to run "IMVStart" once then the ImageViewer.exe can be launched from that particular folder.
Wichtel, could you please try this in your device? I did try put it into /Programme" and it worked. I also double checked the Registry key and it was set to the right folder.
Please try and let me know if there is any problem or bug. Thanks.

Thanks, Timmy. I just put the new one. Please try it. I will try to see I can add this one in the next version.

Yes, that is possible. With new version, you don't need "imvclose02.exe" between the image change. Just use imagebutton code to open ".imv".

I will see I can put as an option.

Jep, this Version works fine on my Device. Good work :approve:
UK_skinner,
That's nice: you worked on a couple of things, before I was asking you...
Thanks for the update! I go immedeately to try it!!
Timmy
UK,
Great... Works like a charm !! In my radar section, I can switch between multiple radar pics, and the new one chosen refreshes in its place !! I have "IMVclose" associated with my "x" button which closes the region, so I can go to another, and "imageviewer" closes along with it !!!
I wonder, if there is a way to have "ImageViewer" NOT always be on top ??
Example: In my "Traffic" section of my skin, I have an RSS feed of Titles appear on top of the page, and the traffic map appear with ImageViewer on the lower half of the screen.. When I tap on a title, I would like to have the traffic info description appear in the map area !! Can't do this with ImageViewer on top !!
Just a thought.. The ability to keep the image open, and do other things, then come back to the image would maybe be handy in a skin, and add even more possibilities !!
But the way it works now is Great too !!!
Thanks "Mr. Santa"

Strange... When I click on another part of my screen, ImageViewer disappears to the background, like I wish. ZapMe1, don't that work on your PocketPC??
UK_skinner,I really like the things you are working on at this moment!! They give me much pleasure! Here are some comments to the latest version:
1) I've got an error when I reïnstalled the newest version. So, I deïnstalled the older version and installed the newest. No problem anymore, so far!!!
2) There is no distortion of the picture anymore!!!
3) The negative number for 'y' still works, and the too large numbers for the right side and bottum side of the screen also still work!!! So I can align a picture to most of my wishes!
4) Request...
It would be great if the program could open automatic in the 'fit to screen' mode. In that case, the picture is exactly on the screen, in the way you want it. Hope, you'll succeed in finding the coding. Wish you a lot of success!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Timmy,
If I have another program open at the same time, and I open ImageViewer, my image is on top... When I tap on the screen within the additional program, then ImageViewer moves to the back, and all I see is the 2nd program !!
But... With just the skin, ImageViewer always stays on top !!!

ZapMe1,
Yes, now I understand your problem!! Thanks for the explanation. In fact: it's the same problem here... So: you have a good point! I hope UK_skinner or someone else can fix it!
Timmy
ZapMe & Timmy:
Let me see I understand this right. You would to display the text information from TP on the top of ImageViewer window. So the text information and image can be displayed at the same time. Just like when the image displayed by TP and you can add the text.
If that is the case, then I need to take a look. At this moment, TP and ImageViewer are two seperate "things". The only connection here is TP can call or close the ImageViewer, like a switch. But if you are talking to "export" some text information to ImageViewer window, then that is totally another story. Becuase the way is working right now is to lay out the IMV window on the top of TP. By controlling of the size and position, you still can access the TP buttons. It will be very difficult to create a "sandwich" (from the bottom, TP-IMV-TP).
However, there is a poosible way but I would need to "dig" more.
UK_skinner,
To be honest: it's no problem for me and the skin I'm playing with. I only inervened because I didn't understand Zapme's point, but he explained it in the meantime.
But I DO have a wish: five posts higher...

UK_skinner,
This is what I did with Radar.exe & ImageViewer.exe & EarthViewDL.exe:
I've made eightteen little buttons, just under the date, and moved some things to other places.
Two buttons are connected with Radar.exe & EarthViewDL.exe and the rest of the buttons are connected with one of the downloaded pics. See the attachement.
UK_skinner: thanks for all the tips you gave!

Wow, 18 bottons...
What are they? I know some of them are for showing image. Some of them are bigger than others...Care to share with us?
A small exe (imvclose02.exe) is available for downloading at the First Post.
This small exe can be lauched within in TP via a "button" code. It will close the ImageViewer. For instance, you can add a "button" code while you exit from the radar page.

No problem! The eight right buttons are used for the weatherpictures-downloads. The following eight buttons are empty now, they are for future plans. And the left two little buttons are for Radar.exe and EarthVieDL. I've attached the buttons.

Timmy
Another small exe (imvWinControl.exe) is available for downloading at the first post.
1) If the ImageViewer.exe is not running, it does not do anything. For instance, when you just go to the radar section for the first time. The .imv file will trigger IMV.exe launch and display the image.
2) If the IMV.exe is running and IMV window is visible, it will "hide" the IMV window but keep IMV.exe at background.
3) If the IMV.exe is running and IMV window is "hide", it will bring IMV window back.
This exe is useful when you don't need the image (for instance jump out of the radar section), the window will hide but the program does not quit. When you need the image again, just one button then the window will show. This is much quicker than re-launch the program.
UK_Skinner is the "Man of the Year"
He keeps comming up with new and better ways of using TP and all the additions that we have all added !!
This latest file (IMVwincontrol02.exe) is a great addition !! I tested this with my new Traffic info section in my skin, where I want to display a traffic map, which ImageViewer does well !!
I also have an RSS feed setup that has titles at the top of the page, for the traffic feed..
I wanted to be able to display the traffic "description" in place of the map at the bottom.. This new .exe file from UK lets me do that perfectly !! It puts ImageViewer to the back, and shows my traffic description.. I setup an additional button covering the description section, which again runs "imvwincontrol.exe", and brings back my traffic map !!!
Another Great job and Very Well Done !! Thanks UK... :approve:
UK_skinner,
What you've done for me (and us) at this moment:
* Radar.exe is doing it's work
* EarthViewDL.exe is pickinh up the pics where Radar.exe fails
* ImvWinControl02.exe to automatically download Radar.exe and EarthViewDl.exe
* ImageViewer_25Dec04.exe to look at the downloaded pics on my PocketPC
* Imvclose02.exe to close ImageViewer inside TodayPlus
And everything does it's work without any problem!!!

Do you have time for further finetuning?? No??? NO PROBLEM!!! If the answer is 'yes', than I have the next request: can you make a version of ImageViewer that opens in 'fit to screen' mode? (Explanation of my request: after opening I have to click on the 'fit to screen button' for each picture to get it in the right place).

As you notice, when you run ImageViewer, there are 4 image icons can not be visible at the bottom task bar. I finally confirmed this is a problem in WM2003SE device (VGA or QVGA). To get fixed, you need to download the ".NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 Redistributable" from Microsoft.
But, I would like to give you my typical warning again: Please back up your device. I tried it on my hx4705 and the image icons are visible again after install this SP3. The downloaded file is 14MB, however, I have no clue how much memory was used in the device by this SP3. If someone find out, please let us know. Here is the link:

Sweet! Thanks UK. I'm going to be upgrading to SE soon and this is one more thing that I won't have to worry about. 8) Way Cool!!
I'll let you know how much memory it consumes as soon as I can get it to install. I get an error msg. "This insallation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package." I even tried to copy it to the device and open it there no go.

What device are you using?
Downloaded it to my laptop running XP, double clicked on the file after unzipping it and a window pops up saying (installing) then another window pops up with the error msg. in the previous post. Oh and trying to install it to my X50.
I did not recall that I need unzip it. It was a msi type file, I just double click and it will install in your PC then will install the necessary stuff to your device through AS. It is not meant ot install directly on the device.
It didnt appear to install anything on my device. If I go to properties it says Type of file-Windows installer package and Opens with-Windows installer. The file is NETCFsetup.
Here are what I saw:
1) Download the NETCFSetup.msi
2) Double click it, after a routine (license stuff) it installed a folder named "Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP3" in my Program files on the PC.
3) The setup program will try to find a device connected via AS. So it is better you put device your device on the cradle before you run it.
Initially I saved it to my PC and then tried to open it (no unzip I was mistaken on that) Now I'm downloading it again , but used run instead of save. I have dialup so it takes forever. I'll keep you posted.
It worked! For some reason it wouldnt from the saved file, but now I see it all.
Memory useage
When I use Resco FE it says 0 bytes, but soft reseting the device and going to -settings-system-memory-it looks as though I lost about 1MB
Thanks for the fix UK!

Great. Thanks for let me know the size of the installed file.
Uk_skinner,
I've received your latest version of ImageViewer, and tested it in the meantime. At first it only opened the config.imv. But then, suddenly, it opened all my .imv files... I realy don't know why...
All works fine now. I can go from picture to picture, without ending the progamm between the pictures. And all pictures are automatic opened in the 'fit to screen' mode.
Uk_skinner, I can tell you: I'm very happy with this new feature! It's a real improvement in my own skin! Thanks for all your efforts to reach this point!
At least I have one question: in the bottum bar I see a new button-picture ('at work' ???). What is this button doing?!?
Thanks again!

The new button is just an experiment, not fully function yet. Probably will be an "about" button. I would like to put some version information. But this could be other function. :?:

UK,
The new ImageViewer works like a charm !! :approve:
I have the new button, but like you said, no function yet !!
 Is it possible that this button, (or an additional one), can open the "imv" file for quick editing ?? That would be great !! And Handy !! :D
 Also, we could make the other buttons "more graphical".. If you tell me the button image size, I'll see what I can come up with !!

Since you voulnteer yourself, if you can get me both 16x16 and 32x32, then I can put them in.

I am not sure. The .imv file has associated to ImageViewer. I need to find a way to open it in notepad.

I will work on it and see what I can come up with !!
I am in the process to improve the ImageViewer. Here is one possible feature that ZapMe1 requested: Edit IMV file within ImageViewer.
Any idea or suggestion. Another possible new feature I will try to include is to let you load image at the center you wish. At this moment, the image was loaded start at left-upper corner (no window-fit). I think it will be nice if you can specify the center you wish to see when image is loaded.
Edit: Please see below for latest screenshot.
Uk_skinner,
Why not! Everybody can choose his own wishes in that case. Would be a good feature!

I knew you could do it ! "Magic" (http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_22_2.gif)
Thanks to ZapMe1. We have new icon buttons for ImageViewer. Two new buttons were added, IMV edit and About.
1) In Edit page, user can edit the imv file. New feature including to include "window fit", "center position" and "zoom". In other words, you can specify these parameters in your imv file and the image will be loaded as you specify.
2) The about page just for me to keep tracking the version of ImageViewer.
I will try to make the ImageViewer VGA version. At this moment the icon does not look sharp.
If only we had you all in government, something would get accomplished!
Looks Great !! New things everyday.... (http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_11.gif)

Maybe UK can make an EXE for that !!!! (http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_17_5.gif)
Uk_skinner,
I think I've missed something: is the newest version to download somewhere? If not, can you mail it to me, please?

Timmy:
Sorry about that. The latest version is still under testing. But if you like, I will send to you for testing.
Uk_skinner,
Yes, I like to test this exe. Please, send it to me!
Timmy
Uk_skinner,
I've got your two mails. Thanks!

Test the second one. And please don't forget to make a back-up before you do the testing.
I woudl like anyone who is intersting to test this version of ImageViewer. It requires the ".NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 Redistributable " in your device. The link for downloading was provided here (http://forums.jhollin1138.com/viewtopic.php?p=13509#13509).
Again, I need to give you the warning: Please backup your ppc before you using it.
Also thanks for ZapMe1 to provide me the image of icons.
Features :
1) The 1st button :zoom in.
2) The 2nd button : zoom out.
3) The 3rd button: fit to window
4) The forth button : deactive "drag-and-move" and will activate the pop-up menu when you tap and hold on the image.
new feature:
5) The fifth button: Edit imv files (see screenshot). You can open the imv file from your device and change the parameters in it, inculding the current features: imag pathway, position/size of window, scroll bar (yes/no) , height of "title bar and new features : fit to window (yes/no), center position (x,y) and zoom (10,25,50,75,100,200 and 400%). Once you finish the changes, tap either "Save" or "Check" icon at the bottom. The imv file will be saved according to the file pathway window. If you tap on "check" icon then it will bering you back to ImageViewer window and you should see the change you make.
6) The 6th button : About, a pop-up window will show you the information about this version. The current one is "05Apr2005, 0730AM ET".
For VGA users, I apologyze that the quality of the image. ZapMe1 did make the 32x32 of the images, but at this moment I only can use 16x16 and use OS to expand to 32x32. I am in the process to make a VGA-supported version. Please be patience.
After unzip the file, just replace the ImageViewer in your folder. (of course a back-up of previous one is encouraged).
Uk_skinner,
Today I've tested this version several times, and everything works fine! Thanks for your new, users-friendly feature!
Timmy
Working Great on this end !! Nice Job... :D
uk_skinner,
Would it be possible for me to get a copy of your latest version of ImageViewer? Is there a link somewhere here in the forums for it, or do I have to get it straight from you?
I've tried the 25Dec04 version, and think it's great! I'm very interested in the autofit feature, as well as some of the other features you've added since that version.
Thanks!

Ok....feel free to start the flaming! I obviously missed that post. My eyesight must be getting bad... :P
I download it and give it whirl. Thanks so much for all the great little exe's, uk!!!
OK you guys. I have managed to configure everthing I have tried up until now. I don't get how I edit the hammerskin to use this. Help!!!!! It works great but I have no idea what to look for in the skin...I have the english version but some stuff is still not english so I am not sure.
Hi again everyone. I am still struggling with this. I know the easy answer is to just use resco to associate the image viewer to the gif that the radar points to. However, that opens the image viewer directly on the Weather page and not in a radar page. Looks stupid. How can I tell the radar button to go to the radar page and then open up image viewer on that page.
I see the part of the skin that effects this that has the "imagedir, images\radar". I tried changing the path to the imageviewer.exe instead but that doesn't work. I feel I am almost getting it but quite not. Can someone give me a bit of a push so I can get this figured out? I don't have an elaborate spread of images. I just have one radar image that will open with the radar button in weather and then one other traffic image that is stored in the menu item "radar and satellite". That's it so I am hoping this would be a simple thing to fix for you experts. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Groovin :)
Just to let you know I am not ignoring this, I've no idea! ;)
Grayme no problem. I found the answer Wichtel gave me the guidlines for adding a button in the Hammerskin.
I have a simple solution for you:
Code:
imagebutton,177,78,Radar.png,t,7,4,6,-1
button,177,78,32,32,-1,0,%apps-7-2
button,177,78,32,32,-1,6,var3=-8,
button,177,78,32,32,-1,6,var23=18,
button,177,78,32,32,-1,6,var25=0,
button,177,78,32,32,3,4,999
button,177,78,32,32,1,4,999
With this code you can link the Imageviewer in the config on apps 7 place 2. button,177,78,32,32,-1,0,%apps-7-2
