Hi,
I'm using a skin now called "OSX Complete skin v1.0", I want to mod it so that it fits abt 3/4 in the middle of my screen between two today plugins that i still want to use concurrently with Todayplus (i'm using 0.11). i am using the O2 mini (some call it i-mate JAM, magician, etc), the screen is quite small.
i do not want to have the plug ins go beyond the screens because it will create the vertical scrollbars by the PPC by default.
The 1st plug is a today plugin that displays owner photos in slideshow format and some owner info.
2nd plug is today plus
3rd plug is PocketZenPhone
i think i managed to fix the today plug in in the middle without triggering the vertical scroll bars unless i enlarge some of the panels, (ie. news..)
Now, i need to move the rows of "shortcuts" lower to the screen. I managed to figure out how to move it down, but then the problem is, if i click on the up / down arrow buttoins to switch between the rows of shortcuts, the new group of shortcuts' icons will overlap the old ones which is what i am trying to avoid.
Anyway, I do not have proper "training" in programming/coding, most things are self taught, so most changes to the original skin was based on trial and errors. And i do not understand most of the meanings of the variables/fields/ or whatever u call it.
Is there a FAQ on the basics of "skin programming" that i can read up?
Anyway, here's the mod to the codes please help me check what's wrong?

Hi guys,
I finally found the answer, managed to do some more detailed searching and found some reading materials, so basically, i need to change my defregion to:

and now the icons updates perfectly!!
now only need to figure out how to give some of the shortcuts at the "quick launcher" a proper icon or a customed icons like "clauncher" that i used to use.
my next "assignment" is to be able to tweak the "News" page to display more than 3 lines of news along with the "up down arrows"

To use your own custom icon, place the image for the icon into the OSX folder under
Images, then replace the "shortcut" command line for that shortcut with an "image" command line, keep the same coordinates and use the image's file name you included in the OSX folder. Like this:

Yes, it is really tough for a newbie to jump straight into skinning without prior knowledge of skin programming. The FAQ link helped a lot, but i still have some issues, and rbg08, thnx for coming in to write. Should i bring further questions to the original thread you started for your skin, or could i ask them here, or it doesnt matter actually because everybody here reads every single thread anyways .. heh..

ok, here's what's happening,
As mentioned above, i'm trying to put the "OSX Complete" Today Plus plugin between 2 "normal" Today plug in, and i would like to fix it's height, so that i do not get things that goes off screen (vertically), thus the PPC will not bring out its "built-in" scroll bar, which will screw up the graphics on screen.
So, I modified the "OSX Complete" to have a fixed height, enlarged the "main window" downwards, brought the row of quick launches lower, and also reduced the no. of Agenda / Tasks / Countdown lists to display 3 items only.
I've also added some custom icons (memory, battery, SD card, Storage) when looking at "System info"
I've also added TIME and also sunrise, sunset and their icons to the MAIN window.
I've also added other little things that will fill up the empty spaces on the Main window since it is enlarged slightly (which causes some screen refresh issues that i'm still not able to solve).
Here's the issues I encountered:
1. On main screen, i shifted the "clock" icon and the "Last updated" downards, but then i noticed that the "Last updated" and it's text keeps getting bolder and bolder if i just go to the MAIN screen and do not click on anything. Seems like the page keeps reloading and reloading, which causes this. But I can't seem to find the fix for it.
2. Next is, Weather, i added some additional info to it, like date under every icon, and on the "current weather", i added windspeed, wind direction, initially, i had screen refresh issues, ie. if i click on a day, and then click on next, the new text i added below the icons will overlap. I thought i fixed it, by change the last value in all the button commands from "0" to "-1".
it worked for a while, but somehow, i'm not sure if there is anything wrong with my mods, but the weather display doesnt seem right. sometimes the left most icon displays the current weather info correctly, but some times it shows "yesterday's weather.
initially, my date under every icon shows up properly and screen refreshes properly as mentioned above, but then suddenly, the info doesnt show anymore. Even when i click on the left most' icon (to show today's weather), it doesnt show the page that used to show "windspeed" and "wind direction", but instead shows it as though its' "tomorrow"
I think it might have something to do with the "-1" that i've changed in all the "button" command within "WEATHER"
Even before i changed the above fields, it seems to me like weather always displays wrongly at night. I suspect it has something to do with daylight savings? I'm in Singapore (GMT + 8 ), and we do not have daylight savings. I'm sure i've defined my region correctly in Today config.exe so not sure if this is a separate issue.
3. I would like to make "NEWS" display two more lines (either one or two more) since i've made the MAIN window bigger (by bringing the battery/memory/SD card bar lower) . But I cannot figure out how to add the one or two additional lines to news. I tried duplicating the last series of commands to display the news line, but then it shows up fine the first time, but if i scroll up and down with the NEWS' slider, the last line will be overlapped by other text infinitely.
i tried to enlongate the scroll bar by doubling the scroll bar png but somehow it doesnt work.
So i'm lost in this area to create one or two more additional News line.
4. For Launcher to have my own customed icons for the shortcuts/links, i've changed the "shortcut,x.x.x.x" to "image, ...[my own pix].bmp,t", but then if i do it to the group that have name of the apps displayed, the names displayed is wrong. it shows the name of the previous app. My quick fix was to manually type the name in the [name] field. there should be a fix for this, please advice..
5. Now, i have the first group of shortcuts in my quicklaunch bar, the second and third groups that is defined in config.exe also appears fine when i go to the LAUNCHER tab. but i want to add more groups of shortcuts. i've defined them in config.exe already, but just cannot seem to bring it up when i click on the "next" button. is two groups of shortcuts the max for this skin?
i tried to duplicate the last group of shortcuts in the skin, but changed the "region" to one number higher, and also the apps-x-x to one number higher, but it still doesn't showed up. i changed apps-x-x to two numbers higher, and same thing... no show...
thus need help here also!!
I'll attempt to attach the modified skin here for you guys to analysis. basically, i need A LOT of help to make this skin work for me
The un-modified skin works fine for me, except for the Weather display that goes hay-wire at night, but i just need to mod it to fit my screen.

OK, if it is more clear, here's a few screen shots below and here's some description:
1. I set the PPC's clock to "day time", at 00:19hrs
2. notice after abt a min, the "Last updated:...." text (circled in red) gets bolder?? seems like it keeps overlapping itself over and over again
3. now, if i click on the weather icon or ther weather tab, i will get to the weather page. this is how i modified it to look like. with dates at the bottom of each day's weather so i know i am in the "correct week"
4. now, if i click on the left most weather icon (which i assume will show "today's weather"), it shows up this page with my newly added "windspeed" and "wind direction" (is windspeed in km/h or mph or knots or other units??
BUT, i've set today to be SATURDAY 5th MARCH 2005, and this one is showing "yesterday" which is 4th March 2005 !!
5. now, if i go back to weather and click on "Sat" , i think it is supposed to be "today" since i set today to saturday, but here, it appears saturday is "tomorrow" again
6. now, i set the clock to SATURDAY 5th MARCH 2005, 22:22hrs (10:22pm), notice the weather icon for "today" now becomes a "daytime" icon?
which brings me to the question abt the sunrise and sunset, is it today's sunrise, sunset or tomorrows? or yestesterdays' ??
7. now, if i click on the weather icon, notice the dates i created for all the days are gone!! ie. at "night", the dates don't appear!!
8. and if i click on the left most weather icon which should brings up "today"'s weather, well .. now it seems correct now... but ... the dates are not showing up in the previous page, which might make me wonder if this "sat" is today or next week? or last week ????!!
A lot of the problems you are having can be fixed by changing the following code at the beginning of the skin file:

It appears you added 16 to the height of the main window, so that region, 0, needs to be redefined with the new correct height.
The way the weather section works is a little complicated. If TodayPlus has been updated in the past 4 hours, you will see current conditions displayed in the left-most spot with the time it was updated displayed beneath the weather icon. If more than 4 hours have elapsed since TP was last updated, then you will see today's weather forcast in the left-most location. This is also the same for the weather icon displayed on the main page. You will see a daytime forcast on the main page, even if it is currently night, if there is no current conditions to display. Sometimes TP will appear to be displaying the wrong date as today's date for weather. This is a quirk that has something to do with the TodayPlus program itself, not the skin. It may be due to the fact that weather.com's information is set to EST timezone and so it dosen't change today's weather date until it is midnight EST (just a guess).
Changing the News section will be rather complicated; but if you run into a wall let me know and I'll do my best to try to help you out. :)

TodayPlus used the information from MSNBC whose source is from weather.com. But the information on MSNBC ususally is 2 hours delayed. TodayPlus also checked your last updated time (the time you update the weather information, not the one MSNBC update). In the weather.com, there is no day forecast after 2:00PM local time. So you can image with 2 hours delayed, the day forecast is not available at 4:00PM.
So when you update the weather infomration in the morning, your 5-day forecast starts at Today. If you update after 4:00PM (rougly) then it starts at tomorrow.
The far left one brings up the current condition. And the secondone should be "said" as the first day of the 5-day forecast. In other words, if you it could be today or tomorrow as I mentioned previously.
Also the updated time (MSNBC) is ET time not your local time.

1. yes, by adding "16" to that field in region 0, one of my issues was solved. The "Last updated:....." text doesnt get bolder by the minute
2. Regarding weather, i gather that i would need to synchronise the weather often to make it show the correct readings.
Only thing I don't understand is, how come at different time of the same day, my customised text [b[(date under each weather icon, and the windspeed and direction when i click on the leftmost weather icon in Weather tab)[/b] doesnt appear.
Need to find the correct place to insert the codes, so that it will display even if it was synchronised within the 4 hours or not.
3. I've attempted to make News display one more line (i think i would ultimately want to make it display 2 more, making it 5 news lines). I've yet to try it again, but maybe the clue might have something to do with the "defregion" for that region too, because i was getting overlapping text too. Only thing is, i might need help, on how to extend New's scrollbar and the up and down arrow buttons to work correctly too.
4. Do let me know what to do with the Launcher too. Coz, now, i can only display the shortcuts at the bottom of the main window, and then toggle between two groups of Launcher shortcuts in the Launcher tab only. I would like to make Launcher toggle between more groups. I attempted to modify the skin by duplicating the last group of codes and changing the "app-" number, but it doesnt bring up another group for me to toggle to..

Hi again,
OK, after fiddling with the skin again, I manage to get Launcher to go to other Groups that I've defined in my config.exe
Now, only thing is, the News page, i could add two more lines to show when i click on the News tab, but then i still have problem with the scroll bars and buttons.
Any help or hint would be much appreciated!

Sorry, but it would be better, if you attach the skintext you use, so that
somebody can download and test, because reading all the codelines in the
thread is very difficult and no chance to test anything.

I guess this explains why I did not get any help recently.
I'll attach the txt again if i encounter more issues in the future. Thanks for the tip. For now, the skin is modded to do what i wanted it to do for me :)
