Title: Countdown Option
Post by: Ripper on November 10, 2003, 11:22:19 PM
I just have a quick question...  I believe that it is working correctly since the hours on it are correct... but when counting days I seem to be one day short. Is there a way to correct this...? Or is this the way it works...?

If not correct... is there a way to adjust it. I noticed that if I click on the current day on the calendar and then use the countdown feature it seems to work correctly... Am I making any sense...?

the number of days are rounded.... (eg 1.6 days = 2, and 1.4 = 1).  the reason you see a higher number when you click on todays date in the calendar is that when you click a date it sets the poom date and the time to 12:00 am.

Thanks for the quick response SRS, great program by the way. Before I forget there are a lot of people that would appreciate a MIPS version even without the option to bring in data from the net.

Anyway... is there a way to round up all the numbers...? I have events that are not till tomorrow showing as today since the counter would see it as less than one day.

srs - When we discussed this previously (http://dark-mojo.com/TodayPlus/viewtopic.php?p=705#705) we talked about checking for midnight, etc.  Am I right in thinking you went with the straight rounding approach?  If so, did you have any further thoughts on the alternative?

yes, I went with the rounding method.

calculating from midnight (ie display hrs if the appt date = today's date, and if the appt date != today's date, just subtract appt date - today's date (ignoring the time) ) seems to work.

although, if an appointment starts at 12:00am the hours would never be displayed, so for example on dec 31, new years day would show as being 1 day away, instead of x hours away.

and I did build a ppc2000 version a while back, but I dont have a ppc2000 machine to test it on so if not sure if it will work or not.  the ppc2000 version also has some other limitations, most notable that it can only display bmps and not other formats.

I suppose that if there are enough people interested I could release it...

Hi SRS... if I am understanding you correctly then, an event that is dated for tomorrow should show it as one day away right up till midnight. What is currently happening is that everything is one day off. I really do not think people need to know the hours and minutes to an event. IMHO it is enough to have an accurate count of the days to go.

Actually, srs confirmed that he went with the rounding method, ie if it's 1.6 days away it will say 2 days.  This is mostly a problem where you are looking at your calendar at 8am and seeing an appointment at 9pm tomorrow, which will say it's 2 days away.  However, if you are looking at an appointment at midday tomorrow, it should say 1 day.

That's how it seems to work for me, anyway.

Thanks arbitrajeu, but thats my point... I have things that are 0.4 days away and they are telling me they are "    " days away. I think it should be 1 day right up till midnight. But if this is how it is going to work I will work around it... afterall... till midnight it is not today is it..? And like I said I don't think anyone really needs to know that it is 5 hours and 4 minutes till Thanksgiving...
