Title: Which skin type you prefer?
Post by: LightMan on November 17, 2003, 06:19:48 AM
Just wondering about this...what is your favorite type of skin (full screen, minimizable, which sections you use/don't use, etc)

This info will hopefully be important for us skinners to better adapt our personal skins to a wider range of users.

p.s. I didn't make a poll because there are simply too many variations for that.

Lightman

My preference is a minimal format from which you can maximise (then minimise) sections as required.  I don't need all the possible information on screen at one time, nor would I wish for some of this to be seen by others looking over my shoulder.  My current ideal design would be "Date with minimise/maximise icons" as one "region", and a launcher as a second "region".  The laucher would be an non-tabbed no text version (so saving more clutter) but one which you can simply side scroll to other "groups" of icons  e.g apps, games, utils, others....

In terms of most used of the current functionality it would be, in order

POOM (by a long way),
Launcher,
RSS,
weather,
system info.,
time.

Having a clean screen probably reflects my use/requirement for POOM info, and to have the maximum amount pf POOM data on screen at any time.

Hope this helps.

For me the most important is:

1. Poom (Agenda + filtered tasks, all tasks, count down)
2. Weather
3. RSS
4. System info
5. Launcher
6. World time

the POOM should always take up the max space. Probably 2 regions. 1 (on top) is weather or clock or rss or launcher or system info (not more than 1 at a time). 2 (middle) poom. Bottom I use VBirthday so the above should not overlap it

Srs's is the closest (with adjustments) but I like the graphics by Lightman and rgb (amongst others).

I prefer minimalist skins...

I'm not sure why, as I don't tend to have POOM information on my Today screen so typically end up with a whole bunch of empty space.  But, much of it is the challenge of utilising the Today screen as effectively as possible.  I will be adding a focused set of POOM information to my next skin, and keeping the minimalist approach.

My priorities are:

My priorities are

Weather
Launcher
RSS
System info (using Pocket backup)
POOM (using calander+)

I prefer a minimalist skin
In fact your recently abondoned skin look just the sort of thing I was after  :D

Always displayed would be:
Weather, mini-launcher, system info, date
option to display POOM seperately
Scroll weather with RSS and launcher

As most have already said, I prefer minimal look when "collapsed" and able to be full screen when "expanded."  Information I will always display:

1) Date
2) System Information
3) POOM
4) Launcher

Information I will access from time-to-time:
1) Weather
2) RSS Feeds
3) Date

I too like the graphical look of Lightman's skins.  I admire the amount of time Lordtwisted has invested into "Forever Metal" but I would never use it.  Actually, lately I have been happy with the latest Slider (v0.10.0) skin, after a few tweaks that is.

I prefer "minimalistic" skin

Weather only or weather and RSS.
But actualy slider.txt is perfect

My preferences are similar to drumbo's.

1. Poom (Appointments and location; I don't use tasks or countdown)
2. Weather
3. Quick Launcher
4. RSS
5. World time

The POOM should always take up the max space.  I don't use System Info because I have Wisbar.  I don't use any other Today's plugins at this point.

I did some heavy customization on the Logika skin to maximize the Agenda area.

I like version 0.10.0 very much; except that I have no need
for the launcher. I is to hard to configure it. I prefer cLauncher :D

Hello,

  My favorite skin will be:

1- A fixed region with the Date and Quick launch section (That doesn't need much update).
2- An updatable region that contains minimal System Info with the current time.
3- A minisiable region shared by weather, rss, and World Time.
4- A Well Organized POOM section (that can be minimized for privacy).

My most used features:
1- POOM (with a lot of filters atleast 5).
2- Launcher.
3- Sys. Info
4- World Time
5- rss
6- weather.

My favorite skin is Calendar. I have started to modify it to include a launcher section instead of the "Calendar" at the top in 0.9.8, but I haven't started 0.10.0 yet

My Preferences:

1/  Weather of 3 cities at least
2/ POOM + Calendar
3/ Quick Launcher
4/ Batery Info

I like when the skin is minimizable

My favorite skin (and current) is Logika from rbg8.  I like Lightman's creations too.

The other plug-in i use is only wisbar advanced.

I like the original skin that came with the first version to include 'uptime' (0.9.7??) The skin is called analog-weather.com.txt.

I like the fact that the shortcuts and weather and rss open in the same field and my todayscreen never needs scrollbars because it doesnt expand. My batter/memory info is always available and never covered. Agenda and calendar open in the same field, again no expanding

As I have said a few times, ANY new skin is great and much appreciated.  It's great to have OPTIONS.

I prefer a skin where the weather is always displayed, even at startup.  ALL other options (RSS, Calendar, Clocks, etc.) should take up the SAME region as weather when selected - as in NO expaning today screen.

Memory, battery, uptime and batt life should be displayed discretely at all times.

A small launcher section with simple controls is preferred - open at all times.

Poom should only take up a small space with the option to minimize.

Hmm - Logika is close to my perfect skin already  .  Other than the weather not opening at startup and no uptime/batt estimate visible at all times, it's pretty darn close to perfection in terms of my preference (and it looks great too!).

Also a fan of the emerging slider skin.  I like the option of being able to maximize/minimize the various regions.
Priorities:WisBar Adv provides immediate systems/task access and TodayPlus provides POOM/time/weather/headline data.  Works perfect for me![/list]

jhollin1138,

amount of time  one week I made it months ago. almost the begining of todayplus. What time are you talking about. I don't care if you use it or not. It would be pretty hard to use it since i never posted it.

In a skin there are two things I like on permanent display my poom section and a quick launch bar (not necessarily the full launcher). Below is a list of my preferences and what other plugins these features replace:

1. Quick Launch (always visible) - replaces tdLaunch
2. POOM details (always visible) - replaces tAgenda
3. Battery/Memory/Storage meters - replaces BatMemTime/TodaysInfo
4. Date/Time
5. Weather
6. Calendar
7. RSS feeds - helps overcome avantgo 2mb limit
8. Owner Info - Owner Info X

I also prefer tabbed skins and have standardised on the OSX Complete skin with a few minor modifications as this has all of the above (except owner info - which I am undecided about its usefulness on the Today screen) by default  and just suits my sense of the aesthetic.

Top
-always active
-date
-t+ icons

Middle ~1/4 screen
-zero or one of the following
-user info on device powerup
-weather (1 or 2 is enough for me)
-timezones (clocks, text list for more cities)
-memory/battery (using the nice icons please:-)

Bottom 2/3 screen (or whatever is available to fill screen)
-zero or one of the following
-agenda (agenda, tasks only, appts only)
-OR RSS (long list, full text description)

Very bottom
-one row of always active launcher icons (10 at least), (I don't like the tabbed way, prefer maybe a popup list to change sections)

Sorry, missed this post. :(

I didn't mean to offend you.  I do admire the amount of time you have invested into "Forevermetal."  You may not have had allot of time on your part, but time is time.  Besides, if I had done it myself it would have taken me months to get graphics done.  I am not graphically gifted like Lightman, juni, yourself and others.

I realize you never posted it.  Had you, I would have given it a try, more to see how it looks and how you did it.  I personally wouldn't have switched to it.  I prefer a simple less complex look.  It is not that I don't like the skin.  It is just not my style.

Again, I am sorry if I offended you.  My statement was intended to show my respect for your abilities.
