Low Memory Warngin

I could use some help.  I have been using todayplus off and on for the past couple of years.  Just reinstalled overweekend and added the hammerskin us revised 1.056 verison.  Everything was working great on Saturday and Sunday and Monday, Docked for sync via active sync 3.71 Tue evening and went to bed.  When I woke on Wed. there was a warning window on the PPC stating that there was a Low memory warning.  I tried to soft reset and it just entered into a never ending loop.

Sadly (or maybe not) I had to do a hard reset, my first in 2+years, I am now in the process of re installing all important software.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and what I can do to correct.  I had tp set to sync with all avail RSS sites with 10 headlines per, and 3 weather locations, no radar.

The only difference in since faultless operation was the addition of TP and hammerskin.  Has anyone else experienced this or any ideas as how to avoid.  It obviously happened at the most inconvient time, today was not a good day.

thanks

That is an old problem with TodayPlus that once in a while showed its ugly head and was never fixed.  There was an old thread in one of the hidden sections, "Bug reports" that discussed this.  I have moved it out of "Bug reports" to "Help & Support."  You can find it here.

dmk:

Sorry to hear that you have to do a hardrest.

Where was your Internet Temporary folder, in the main memory or storage card?  Sounds to me that if you have too many RSS feed, then all this cached files could possible caused the problem.

My Internet Temp file is on the storage card now.  It varies where  it is sometimes after a softreset it will move from card back to main mem.  Either way, I don't sync any cache'd sites.  I have about 6 links that save but no "offline".  It appears that TP saves the RSS feeds etc in TP buffer file, is that correct? That file resides on my Device and if I could move to storage card I would love to.

thanks for the ideas

I used uility software (tweaks2k2) to set my Internet Temporary to SD card and never have a problem even after a softreset.

I usually put the whole skin package into SD Card, just leave .exe and .dll in the main memory.  You can create a folder, for example \SD Card\TodayPlus, and copy everything except exe and dll to that folder.  Then go to configure, tap "Base Path", select the \SD card\TodayPlus as your base path, "quit" (not minimize) configure and relaunch it.  You should be able to select the skin.  And everything will go to your SD card, including the rss.txt in the buffer folder.

However, I did encounter a situation that I was not able to solve it.  This one was not seen very often.  My skin would not load after the softreset.  I have to go to Today plug-in and tap ok, the skin will load.  I "think", my SD card is not very good (Kingmax 1GB).  When you wake up from a softreset, the SD card is not ready before the Today plug-in kick in.  This result no skin can be found therefore you need to load it manually.  Samething happened to my hx4705 too.  Once I put my package in iPAQ file store, the issue was resolved.

Thank You very much, I am going to try that with my Dell X5 Advance today, I also have a 1gig card so there is plenty of room there. I have been using memmaid to switch my temp internet file

I found it was something to do with caching the RSS feeds.  Once in a while one would go off and keep growing until it ate up all my memory.  One of the feeds in the buffer file was over 25mg.   It happened to different feeds, too.  So I don't cache any pages now.  It has not happened again since then.

I don't know if this is the exact same problem you experienced, but you might want to check it out if it happens again.

That appears to be the issue.  I have moved TP to the SD card, hopefully that will resolve the reset issue as willjust max the 1 gig card
