Initialising variables

I would like to be able to initialise variables to a certain value when TodayPlus is initially loaded, but don't want the commands to be re-run on refreshes.  Is it valid to do this at the top of the file, outside a region, and expect this behaviour?

the new "initvar" command will do this.
