Hello folks,

I was just reading the naming convention thread in the skins forum for the config file and again someone talked about creating an application to allow these to be set.

I am currently downloading the eVC++, SP2  and WM2003 SDK and came to the conclusion that it should now be relatively easy to write a standalone app that could process the file and allow changes to be made or items added. The downside of this quick approach is that as there are no sections defined in the file the order that new items are written would simply be at the end and so if you have carefully organised it into sections this could be lost although imposing some standard comment at the beginning of each section i.e. // SHORTCUTS could be used to overcome this.

I am a unix rather than Windows programmer but I might give this a try if people are actually interested in this and I am not duplicating SRS's or anybody elses efforts for an integrated configuration GUI. This will be a strictly as time allows effort but I have written a couple of things in VC++ in the past so I expect the embedded version to be very similar. At present this is at the really early idea stage but it seems feasibile to me and although not something I particularly miss not having now that I have got use to TodayPlus I suspect that for a large number of newbies it is still a real pain.

So any opinions,

Don't worry.  This is already on the works.  srs is making good progress with this.

Fair enough, in that case I won't bother no point in duplicating effort.

That was me.   :D   I was about 20% into it when I stopped developing it after reading that srs was working on one (see this   post).

I'm really glad I decided to check before just doing one :D, the thought had crossed my mind at some point lkast week whilst doing a bit of gui work (motif) at work but I was too busy doing other things when home to follow up on the idea.

I didn't spot that srs had already started one and knowing my luck I would have finished on the same day he released a new version with one built in
:)
