I changed bits of the code dealing with internet downloading to fix the exe crashing problem and that new code much be causing some problems.

has anyone with ppc2002 experienced this or only wm2003 users ?

also is there a common rss feed that all those who have this problem are using ?

Scotty

Hi srs

the link I was using was :

rss,1,60,http://p.moreover.com/cgi-local/page?c=Entertainment%3A%20movie%20reviews&o=rss, Movie reviews,15

I know 15 is a big number, but the site had been fine - I could see 15 headlines, and for all 15, I could access the underlying detailed reviews. As I posted above, the site stopped working (I could still see 15 headlines, but when I tried to see the details, I got a page saying that "headine functionality has been disabled from your intranet") so I thought that the owners of this site had changed something (I still think that is the case). When I encountered the memory problem after installing TP 10.2, the huge file was related to this site (rss1) so I couldn't discount the possibility that the fault lay with additional site changes, rather than with 10.2

As I said, I re-installed 10.1, and inactivated (//) the rss link.

To try to help a bit with your diagnosis, I have just re-activated the above rss link, cleared the buffer, and done a refresh (under TP 10.1). It worked fine. The rss link still doesn't work properly - I can see the "headlines" of all 15 movie reviews, but I can no longer see the details. However, I did NOT encounter the memory problem that is the topic of this thread. So, I think it's something to do with 10.2 (but it remains possible that 10.2 is fine for most rss sites, and just causes problems on certain ones; and of course, it may be something weird about 10.2 running under WM2003.

Good luck, & all the best.......Scotty.

I just had the above problem using 0.11.0. the RSS feed I'm using is

rss,3,60,http://www.lockergnome.com/lockergnome.xml,Lockergnome,10

And the first HTML file got to an unholy 100MB before I caught it. The files contains

Sat, 20 Dec 2003 11:\iTunes software.

Sat, 20 Dec 2003 11:\iTunes software.

Sat, 20 Dec 2003 11:\iTunes software.

...

I have an iPAQ 5555 running WM2003, with nothing running but ActiveSync over an 802.11b/Bluetooth (switching back and forth) connection. Let me know if you need more info.[/code]

ok,

I've been taking a close look at this, but unfortunately so far I haven't been able to reproduce this. :(

Here's a wild stab in the dark... what happens when TP is trying to download, and the ACK gets lost? Will the server it's trying to download from resend the packet? If so, this could be causing the big files.

Or I could be smoking ham again...

This just happened to me today with the latest beta (0.12) as well.

Here is the rss feed that caused me problems:

http://www.wired.com/news_drop/netcenter/netcenter.rdf

Luckily I caught it before I totally ran out of memory, but it used up QUITE a bit....

Also, I had just cleared my buffer a short while before this happened.
Take care,

JS,

Please post anything to do with 0.12.0 in the beta testing forum. Not in here until it is realesed. But the proplem is in the feed itself not Todayplus.

Thanks,

Please read through the posts before you comment.

It's a common problem ("bug") & nothing I posted above shows anything specifically related to the beta, so I'm fine with that.

PM me if you have any comments. I believe this thread is for bugs.

I am a new user trying to get the RSS feeds to work and having the same trouble as everyone else

I was wondering is it could be a proxy server? I know that I am behind a proxy at work. I don't know if that will affect anything or not (Weather still works) but I thought I would bring it up.

Had the same problem with version 0.11 the file rss.txt.1.html grew up to 111MB!!!! Where did my PDA got all that memory, don't know, but it made my do a hardreset twice before I found the problem. I had the last setting for the RSS set to 10... it seems that that is a common issue between all that have had this problem.

I just saw this problem on my ver .11 software. Luckily, I have my TodayPlus and buffer on the SD Card so it just filled up the last 40 Meg of the Card.

My cache was only set to 3. (Whatever that really means?) RSS site was different than anybody has mentioned but I can't recall which rss.txt file was the culprit.

To remedy I just stuck the card into a Card Drive, deleted the file and did a Scan Disk & Defrag. Seems OK now.

Maybe a cap can be set to prevent this from happening. On the other hand you mite be prevented from getting all the information you want.

There is suppose to be a limit on the amount of data that will be retrieved when getting the HTML page for an RSS feed (I think its ~100KB per page), but apparently there is a bug in the code that prevents this from working correctly.
