Major memory trouble

Maybe already reported, maybe not, but I had a MAJOR problem yesterday. Downloaded 10.2 and installed it. Everything looks fine. Weather wasn't correct (Amsterdam was 18 degrees C yesterday...) but I got that fixed by, as said the readme, clearing the Buffer directory.

After the sync that followed, my Buffer dir. kept getting bigger and bigger (rss1.txt?) until the moment everything stopped. I was too late; had the thing on my desk and wasn't paying attention.

System didn't responded AT ALL. So I did a soft reset. Alas. It kept resetting. And resetting. Over and over. Removing the battery and replacing: still resetting. So a hard reset was all there was left. And I was NOT amused by that.

My IPAQ 2215 appears to have done the same thing when I installed 10.2 today.  I can't be certain because it started endlessly rebooting before I got the chance to investigate.  I had to perform a hard reset as well.

I noticed the same problem the other day, but managed to catch it when my rss file (think it was one of the .html files) was just 9MB.  I noticed my Bluetooth light flashing rather too much, and TodayPlus was very unresponsive.

Not sure what diagnostic information I can provide, really.

I have now seen this problem on multiple occasions using 10.2 with several different skins:

1) default slider skin
2) Lord Twisted 10.2
3) rbg08 10.2

I have not been able to isolate the problem, but it manifests itself as an uncontrollable need to chew up all available memory followed by a self-destruct sequence

Once it reaches this state, my H2210 enters an "infinite" soft reboot cycle.

The only way to recover is to restore from backup after a hard reset   .

Bottom Line:
If you play with beta software, you better have a backup

Well, you can control it if you catch it, just by shutting down ActiveSync.  Not suggesting that's ideal, but destruction is not totally inevitable.

Bottom Line:
If you play with beta software, you better have a backup

For the record, it should be a 0.10.2 issue only, I'm still using 0.10.1 and I've never ran into this problem.

I think it might be a proplem with the rss in the config.txt file. where it caches the number of pages, I cache 0 and have no proplems like so:

just for the record how many do you all that are having trubles have cached at the end of your code?

I'm pretty sure you're right.  I have 6 cached for each of my 3 feeds, and am almost certain that the file that got bloated in my case was one of the html files.  This would explain why you've not seen it.

I'm sure the solution can't be to avoid caching pages - that's one of the strongest elements of the rss functionality.  However, it certainly is a great way to avoid the problem whilst a long-term fix is found.

I am using 10.2 for a week now, and a mix number of cached pages for my five feeds (6,0,0,6,8 ) and havn't had any problem whatsoever. 10.2 is rather running more stable for me than 10.1.

I am set up the same way and I also haven't seen this one.

I am waiting for the version that will allow me to buffer to a storage card before I start caching.  I am already walking on the edge running an e740, I don't need to fill-up my system memory to.  

BTW, I am also running v0.10.2.

I am using 0.10.2 and have 11 rss feeds, three with 6 cached pages, three with 3, and one with 1 (for a total of 28 cached pages).  I have so far not experienced any memory problems (knock on wood).

I believe srs put a download limit of 100k for each of the HTML files to prevent this type of problem from occuring, but maybe in this version the code is not working.

I had this same problem. I have an ipaq 2210 (German version, same as 2215) and right after I installed 0.10.2 my Ipaq locked up. So I did a softreset and was caught in that softreset-cycle.
I think this is not related to how many or which news feeds one uses, as I only used the config.txt and slider.txt files that were pre-installed in 0.10.2. I haven't even changed my home cities and weather locations in config.txt and slider.txt.
Would be interesting to hear on which devices this problem occurs. As I read further above, someone else with a 2210 had it. On which devices did you have this prob, guys?
Looks as if I won't install Today+ again before this issue isn't fixed....

Had this problem again today, and the offending file was rss2.txt.1.html, which grew to 9MB before I stopped it.  I have attached the contents of my Buffer folder, including the guilty file.  As it is just 9MB of spaces, it compresses down to 9k  

I've also included my config.txt file in the ZIP.

Hope this helps with the diagnostic.

I had the same thing the day after installing 10.2 - my memory suddenly was reported as used up, and the iPaq crashed. Like some other posters, I am running WM2003 on an iPaq 2210/2215. I apologise, I should have reported the problem on the forum last week, as soon as it occurred

I was fortunate, though, because after 5 or 6 resets, being told that the iPaq couldn't find a file named (I think) conn.exe, suddenly a soft reset worked, allowing me access to file explorer; I found a huge file related to my first TP rss site link, and deleted it. Memory was then reported the same as it had been prior to loading 10.2. Obviously, my first thought was a bug in 10.2, but another possibility was that the problem was related to that particular rss site, which had stopped working just a day or so previously (it's a commercial site, and I think the site's owners had done something to prevent access by non-paying visitors). I hadn't bothered inactivating the rss link in TP, so I suspected that, for some reason, accessing that site had caused an essentially unlimited download of data. However, I really needed my iPaq that evening, and didn't have time to distinguish between the two possibilities (10.2 or the rss site) - so for safety's sake, I uninstalled 10.2, and reinstalled 10.1, and inactivated that rss link. No problem since then.
